Tony, beloved dad, husband, son, brother, and uncle, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Fargo on Friday, April 6, 2018, at the age of 46. Anthony Drew Appel was born on August 21, 1971, the son of Ted and Marian Appel in Fargo. He grew up in Fargo where he received his education, graduating from Fargo North High School in 1989. He then attended North Dakota State University. Tony began working for NAVTEQ in Fargo, now known as HERE Technologies, where he worked for over 20 years, serving as a Senior Systems Engineer. Tony was united in marriage to Pamela Naylor on December 22, 2001 in Fargo and their daughter, Katherine was born on November 16, 2002. Throughout the years Tony was an avid golfer, served on the board for the Gators Swim Team, volunteered with the Shanley Theatre, was an active Fargo North Alumnus and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He was currently serving as Deputy Grand Knight for the Nativity Knights of Columbus. Tony is survived by his wife, Pam and their daughter, Katherine Appel of Fargo; his parents, Ted and Marian Appel of Fargo; his sister, Mary Kay (Don) Schott of Fargo; his brother, Ted (Sherrie) Appel of Eagan, MN; his niece and nephews - Tyler (Amanda) Schott, Lindsay Schott and her fiancé, Jason Meidinger, Brandon Schott and his fiancée, Danielle Engelhardt, and T.J. Appel; his great-nephew, Charlie Schott; and his step daughter, Abby (Tim) Yocum. Also surviving are his beloved canine friends, Molly and Sissy. Tony was preceded in death by his infant brother, Joseph Appel. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the JPII Catholic Schools Network, First Choice Clinic, Homeward Bound Animal Shelter, or to a charity of choice.   8. So shocked and saddened to hear of Tony’s passing. We went to school together, even as far back as kindergarten at Washington Elementary, and I enjoyed seeing him in present years at church. Praying for comfort for his family, and a beautiful new life for Tony in heaven, with St. Anthony and all the departed.

  11. I only met Tony a couple of times while working on Shanley theater stuff, but he sure made a quick impression of being a very nice guy and good father. We will be praying for peace and comfort for you.

  18. Tony and I went to high school together and many of my high school memories involve Tony. My thoughts and prayers to Tony and his family.

  19. Tony was the first person we met when we moved to Fargo this past summer. Throughout our first months here, we shared numerous conversations with him about the weather, activities to do in the area, and our love for our furry friends. He was a wonderful neighbor and friend; a great help to our family in the transition to our new life in Fargo. We deeply miss his daily presence in our lives. Praying for all of his loved ones in this difficult time.

  22. I feel so fortunate to have known Tony the last 7-8 years at Nativity Church that I feel blessed to have had the pleasure of knowing him and his great friendship. Tony lived life for his family, friends and deep commitment for his faith and belief in God through many tireless hours of volunteering at Nativity Church and all of us who were brother Knights of Columbus members with Tony. He always volunteered when asked, never complained about the task or how long it took. He exemplified the true meaning of a Christian man in everything he did. He will be dearly missed by all who he touched !!!!!!
