Barbara Useldinger

Barbara Ann Useldinger, 86, Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Essentia Hospital.
Barb was born February 3, 1930, the daughter of Ludwig and Lena Lorz, at Harvey, ND. She moved with her family to Fargo in 1938, and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1948.
Barb was employed as a secretary for M & H Gasoline Company and General Motors Parts Division in Fargo. Later she worked part-time for 30 years at Tri-State Auto Auction which became Adesa Auto Auction.
Barb married Vernon Useldinger on June 26, 1954, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fargo. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary. One of her favorite projects was leading the Christmas Gift Shop program for hospitalized veterans. Barb enjoyed bowling, playing bridge, and gardening. She was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church since 1959.
A wonderful mother and homemaker, Barb cherished family time with her husband, children and grandchildren. Her strong faith was evident in the positive way she lived her life. She treasured her life-long friendships and helped organize class reunions over the years. She had a kind, loving, gracious way about her and an infectious smile which made friends and family treasure her presence.
Barb is survived by her husband of 62 years, Vern; daughters Brenda (Keith) Kerbaugh, Fargo, Karen (Craig) Bakken, Pelican Rapids, MN; son, Thomas Useldinger, Omaha NE; grandchildren Joshua Kerbaugh, Carrington, ND, Jessica Campbell, Sartell, MN, Melissa and Emily Bakken, both of Fargo; great-granddaughters Taylor and Kylah Corcoran, Sartell, MN; brother, Gerald Lorz, Fargo, and numerous nieces and nephews. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lila Cockhill, and infant daughter Lori Jane.
There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center with visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 2:00 p.m. Thursday with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

Vern, Brenda, Karen, Tom and families: We were so sad to hear of Barb’s passing. I have so many memories of mom and Barb having coffee, playing bridge, birthday clubs, and many, many more. It makes me smile to think that the two of them are together again having a cup of coffee and a long talk. You are all in our prayers during this difficult time.

I worked with Barb many years ago at Tri-State Auction. She always had a smile on her face and was kind and generous. She’s now up in heaven chatting with Colleen, Carol and Bonnie! Those four part-timers always made us laugh!
I’m going to miss all the times I got to spend with my grandma. She always took me with her wether it was to the grocery store, or wherever she needed to go. Grandma always took me and my sister to the North High pool in the summer. She was one of the best grandmothers out there and I’m going to miss her dearly.
I’m saddened to learn of Barb’s passing…..she was always a wonderful friend to my mother – Rita. She was so thoughtful to keep my Mom involved in American Legion Auxiliary functions.
Her service to hospitalized veterans was so inspiring. I’m sure that many people who served our country were comforted by the programs she directed.
She leaves a wonderful legacy of spirit-led care for her family.

The Useldinger family lived next door to my family for over 50 years and have been wonderful neighbors and friends. Every time I get back to Fargo they make it a point to visit and catch up with my family.
I know she will be missed by many people as she was a wonderful and kind lady. Our thoughts and prayers will be with Vern and all who loved her.
What a devastating loss. I know how important to you she was.
I remember as a kid Aunt Barb being a kind and warm person. She was the same when I was fortunate enough to visit her a few weeks back. Even with her medical condition, all she seemed concerned with was my family and how things were going with me. I’m very sad for everyone she’s gone. Goodbye Aunt Barb, it was really nice to see you again.

So very saddened to see of Barb’s passing. We lived 1 block south of Barb & Vern on 8th St. for 19 years & I was in Holy Spirit Guild with Barb for many years. She & Vern were always such a bright spot in our lives every time we saw them, so warm, caring, & thoughtful. The last time we ran into them was attending mass at Holy Spirit a few years ago & as was Barb’s nature – she asked how we were doing. They were one of God’s blessings in our lives & can only imagine the loss for the family. Our prayers are with you all.
My love and thoughts are with you. Barb was a truly lovely woman. I think of her often and am grateful of what a great friend she was to my mom until the end. I wish I could be there with you but know my heart and thoughts are.
