Betty Johnson

Betty Jane Johnson of Kindred, ND passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 6, 2017 with her family by her side, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley at Rosewood on Broadway. Betty Jane Johnson was born to Erick and Lorraine Lee on December 29, 1938 in Fargo, ND. Betty attended Kindred Public Schools and graduated from Kindred High School in 1956. She then attended Interstate Business College. Betty held numerous positions in Valley City, Kindred, Fargo, and Olathe, KS. She retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of ND in 1998. Lyle W Johnson and Betty Jane Lee were married in Kindred, ND where they made their home. During her career Betty chose to stay at home, for 13 years, to raise their daughter, Heather. Betty loved to travel with Lyle and enjoyed working on crossword puzzles while in the car. She and her husband loved watching Kindred High School basketball and volleyball. She was an amazing cook, baker, and homemaker and she was very involved in Heather’s academic and recreational activities. She welcomed guests in her home with cookies, bars and coffee and insisted it was never a fuss. Her and Lyle spent many chilly winter evenings laughing and joking with relatives while playing Rook and Pinochle. She spent many hours enjoying yard work and gardening with loving cats and dogs by her side. Betty’s two granddaughters were the light of her life and meant the world to her. Betty is survived by her husband, Lyle, daughter, Heather (Marcus) Aikin, Bloomington, MN with granddaughters Brynja and Ivy. Her sister Barbara (Roger) Johnson, brother, Erick (Brenda Olsgaard) Lee Jr., both of Kindred, sister-in-law Sylvia Lee, Dilworth. and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Erick and Lorraine, her daughter, Pamela Jo, and her brother Lorell. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association and the Great Plains Food Bank. There will be a Prayer Service Monday evening at 7:00 pm at Fredrikson-Boulger Funeral Chapel, Kindred with visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be at 11:00 am Tuesday at First Lutheran Church with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00. Interment will be at the Perhus Cemetery, Kindred, ND. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Rosewood on Broadway for the unbelievably exceptional care and compassion provided to Betty and her family through this journey.
