Carroll Johnsen, of Fargo –formerly of Kindred, ND, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo, ND at the age of 89. Carroll Linus Johnsen was born on January 6, 1927 in Kindred, ND to Andrew and Anna (Grinaker) Johnsen. He was baptized, confirmed, and was a lifelong member of Norman Lutheran Church. He attended Lakeside School until 10th grade before graduating from Kindred High School in 1944. On November 1, 1952 Carroll was united in marriage to Bernice Lunde at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo. They farmed in the Kindred area until retiring in 1990. In 1991 they moved to Kindred. He was active in Norman Lutheran Church serving in many capacities, as well as the Kindred Oil Board, Kindred Lions, American Crystal Board from 1977 to 1985 and the Walcott Township Board. He enjoyed league bowling along with golfing, fishing and boating. He loved spending time with his family and being at the cottage on Pelican Lake. He is survived by his three children: Rebecca (Thomas) Hagen, Chanhassen, MN; Nancy (Paul) Olson, Fargo; and Ron Johnsen, Fargo; two grandchildren: Patricia Olson and Andrea Olson; brother-in-law, James Hanson, San Dimas, CA; and nine nieces and nephews. Carroll was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Johnsen; sisters: Marilyn Greenheck and Martha Hanson; and brother-in-law, Vince Greenheck. A special thank you to the staff of Bethany Retirement Living for their care and compassion for the last four plus years. Memorials are preferred to Norman Lutheran Church, Bethany Retirement Living, or Hospice of the Red River Valley. FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00am on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Norman Lutheran Church near Kindred. VISITATION: One hour prior to funeral services at Norman Lutheran Church. INTERMENT: Kindred Cemetery in Kindred, North Dakota

  3. I am sorry about your dad’s passing away and am glad that I was notified by my brother Jim Skaret this morning so that I could express my sympathy. Your dad seems to have been doing fairly well up until the past couple of weeks. I am glad that he didn’t suffer for a great length of time! Although it has been a long time ago, I still remember family get-togethers at your parents’ farm in Kindred and at your Grandma Olga’s house in Fargo. For one thing, the food was always so good! Rest assured that I will be keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers!

  5. My deepest sympathies for the Johnsen family. Your parents where like mine parents I truly miss them. Your dad was my buddy we would do our yard work together. I would always tell him on a hot day don’t work so hard and go in the house early enough so you don’t get sick because you need too take care your bride.so sad when they moved to Fargo. Love you all!
