Clarence "LeRoy" Carlson
March 25, 1933 ~ July 31, 2017
Clarence LeRoy Carlson, of Fargo, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family under the care of Hospice, and his favorite nurse, his granddaughter, Stephanie. He was born on March 25, 1933 to Clarence and Myrtle (Anderson) Carlson in Fargo, ND. He spent his early childhood in Casselton before his family moved to Colfax where he graduated from high school in 1952.
On October 1, 1953, he was united in marriage to Oryce Burns in Fargo.
LeRoy was then drafted into the military and he served in the Army during the Korean War. In 1955, he was honorably discharged and returned to North Dakota.
LeRoy and Oryce made their home in Fargo where they raised their five children in the house LeRoy built himself. He lived in that house his entire life.
He worked for Foss Plumbing for over 40 years, but his true love was farming and he farmed near Colfax for 60 years. Even after retirement, LeRoy was still called upon many times to help out. As a fair and honest man, he never charged for his time, just enjoyed a cup of coffee and some good conversation.
He was a very social man who could always strike up a conversation with everyone. He was a very welcoming person who was always there to lend a hand.
LeRoy loved his family, friends and animals, even crows. He greatly enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s sporting events and all activities.
He was a loving husband, fabulous father, and a devoted grandfather. LeRoy will be remembered as being very young spirited and jovial. He was a great man.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Oryce; children, Sue Hilzendager; Linda Carlson; Sandy McGregor; and Nancy (Gregg) Johnson; grandchildren, Sara, Jasmine, Brooke, Samantha, Ashley, Stephanie, Adam, Justin, Luke, and Hanna; 13 great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Em.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David; siblings, Ronald and Patsy; and sons-in-law, Butch Hilzendager and Steve McGregor.
There will be a funeral service at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center, Fargo with a visitation one hour prior.

I am so sorry for your loss, loosing a loved one is something we will never get used to. I would like to share some words of comfort with LeRoys family. God promises the day will come where we will once again be reunited with our loved ones on a peaceful earth (John 5:28,29) Yes one day you’ll get to see hug and enjoy LeRoys presence once again, what beautiful hope. Clarence and Oryce have been so helpful and kind to my sisters and I. I am so thankful I got a chance to know them. Clarence was such a hard-working, honest man. He was always quick to help me with anything. I am so sorry for your loss.
I cannot tell you how much I depended and enjoyed all the years I knew Clarence .He seemed to be able to fix everything in my house and then my condo….He also helped my Grandpa out for years….I consider his friendship one of the best things in my life…My thoughts are with his family….Nancy Monson
So profoundly sad to say goodbye to such a wonderful man – the one that anyone would cherish to have for a dad! My heart is breaking for his wonderful family that I love as my own! May God send his comfort to you in this most difficult time, and may you find peace in the knowledge that he is yet another angel watching over this incredible family! The first time I met Clarence he was working for Foss Plumbing. When I stopped at their office to pay the bill
I told the owner how pleased I was, and he said he sure wished he had more like Clarence!
Clarence tuned up our oil burning furnace so well that when NSP was out testing furnaces in the seventies, they commented that they had found the efficiency of that furnace to be one of the highest in the city. He also knew how to service the obsolete furnace in my mother’s house , and continued to do it even after he retired because younger plumbers couldn’t do it. But not only was he very, very good at his craft, he was kind, sociable, and very pleasant. Our whole family enjoyed Clarence, and Charlie and I considered him a good friend. Our sincere sympathy and prayers to Oryce and Clarence’s family.
