Helen M. Nelson, age 94, of Hunter, ND died Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Sanford Care Center in Hillsboro, North Dakota. Helen (Hedrich) Nelson, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Zahn) Hedrich was born on April 22, 1923, in rural Gary, MN. She attended school in the rural area near Gary. Helen was united in marriage to Stanley Nelson on October 30, 1940 in Shelly, MN. The couple farmed for four years in Shelly Township. They moved to Ada and owned the Nelson Garage. In 1954, they moved to Hunter, ND. Helen worked at the Hunter Grocery and then the couple purchased and operated Nelson’s Super Value. They made their home in Hunter, ND for 50 years. In 2003, Helen moved to Kellher Manor in Hillsboro until she entered the Sanford Care Center. Helen was a member of the First Lutheran Church, member of the Ladies Aid, and cleaned the church for many years. She also enjoyed Birthday Club and Homemakers. Family was very important to her and she loved the holidays. She was a wonderful baker and cook. If you stopped at the Nelson’s, Helen always had the coffee on and something to eat. She is survived by her four children, Diana (Chuck) Punton, Hillsboro, ND; Larry (Lyda) Nelson, West Fargo, ND; Sandra (Dan) Riely, Lake Park, MN; and Mike (Lisa) Nelson, Fargo, ND. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Dorothy Hanson, Ada, MN; Marcy Olson, Crosby, MN; Evelyn Holt, Hoyt Lakes, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Stanley; four sisters; and five brothers; son-in-law, Wayne Johnson Jr.; and one granddaughter, Lynette Nelson. There will be a visitation from 5-7:00 PM with a prayer service following at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Wildeman-Boulger Funeral Home, Hillsboro. The funeral will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at First Lutheran Church in Hunter, ND.
