Jarl D. Maasjo, age 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota. Jarl Devere Maasjo was born in Valley City, ND, and raised in Nome until he entered the army in 1946. He met and was married to Gladys Swanson for 36 years after he returned to North Dakota. Clyde preceded him in death, as did his brothers, Clifford Maasjo and Dennis Olson.Jarl and Gladys were active in snowmobiling and spent a lot of time traveling with a close circle of friends. There was always the annual fishing trip to Flin Flon, Canada. Jarl has two grandchildren, Mia Phillips Dempsey and Stan Phillips. They were able to spend a lot of time with him during the summers in Kindred and at the farm near Nome when they were growing up. The big attraction was driving the tractor with Grandpa. Jarl is also survived by his brothers Charles and Ron Olson and sisters Mavis, Bonnie, and Darlene. He has many nieces and nephews who loved him a lot. He always enjoyed seeing them whenever possible. We will all miss him greatly. The Funeral for Jarl will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 25, 2017, with visitation starting at 10:00 AM, Boulger Funeral Home.
