Jerome Oscar Bakken passed away on Friday, February 26, 2021 at the age of 74 years old while being cared for by his daughter, Janell. Jerome “Jerry” Bakken was born to Oscar and Julia Stigen Bakken in Hillsboro, ND on January 17, 1947. He grew up and attended school in Hillsboro, graduating from Hillsboro High School. After graduation Jerry enlisted in the Air Force, serving for four years in the Philippines, Germany, and Viet Nam. Jerry returned to Hillsboro where he lived until moving to Grand Forks. He worked for Gaffaneys, Norbys, and later in Security and Testing. Before retiring Jerry worked in Environmental Services and Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. He is survived by daughter, Janell, Grand Forks, ND; his sister, Beverly (Terry) Wika, Hillsboro, ND; brother, Dale (Doris) Bakken, Hilllsboro; Donald (Barbara) Bakken, Williston, ND; Randy Bakken, Carrington, ND. Preceded by his son, Darin Bakken and his parents, Oscar and Julia. There will be a service on Thursday, March 4th at 1:00pm at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Hillsboro, ND. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Hillsboro at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Wildeman-Boulger Funeral Home, Hillsboro, ND.   1. Jerry was such a kind man. It must be at least once a month, my bike tire would go flat or the chain would come off and Jerry would stop and to help me. Thanks my friend.

  3. So sad to hear of Jerome’s passing. Please accept my condolences. Jerome and I were close the last year I lived in Hillsboro, Oscar worked at one of the gas stations and we hung out there sometimes, probably looking for DQ money. I have fond memories. Condolences to family and friends.

  7. I worked with Jerome at Gaffaneys when we were in our twenty’s and on. He was an excellent service repairman and a kind soul. Jerry, as we knew him by at Gaffaneys, in my opinion was one of the best typewriter and IBM service men in the Greater Grand Forks area. My last visit with Jerome was a couple of years ago when we crossed paths at Natural Grocers here in Grand Forks.

  8. So sad to see that Jerry had passed. I will remember his laugh. We were friends and neighbors for years and he was so good with with my grandson the first time Zach came up to visit all by himself at age Thirteen. Jerry Helped me with things around my house and we had a lot of lengthy conversations back in the day. Will miss you old buddy and RIP ❤️
