Marlys Rude
March 10, 1937 ~ May 20, 2013
Marlys L. Rude, 76, Walcott, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013 at Sanford Palliative Care, Fargo after a courageous 3 year battle with cancer. She was born on March 10, 1937 to Preston and Margaret (Nelson) Heglie in Breckenridge, MN.
She grew up in Walcott, ND and graduated from Walcott High School. Following graduation, she attended Interstate Business College and received a degree in Bookkeeping. She began her career at Anchor Casualty Insurance and later worked at Reinhart Brothers. While at Anchor Casualty, she met Rayder E. Rude and they were married on May 11, 1957 at Walcott Lutheran Church in Walcott. She worked for 26 years at the Harvest States Cooperative Elevator until her retirement.
Marlys was a wonderful cook and baker. In her spare time she loved to read and play card games. As a longtime member of Walcott Lutheran, she was an active member of the church and participated in Ladies Aid. She particularly enjoyed attending countless baseball games of her grandsons. She always looked forward to her monthly lunches with her close friends. Her sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Rayder; sons, Rob (Colleen), Fargo, Randy, Walcott, Ron, Marion, IA; grandchildren, Riley (Jennie), Tim, and Nicholas; brothers, Jeff (Claire), Keith (Delores), and Mike (Denise) Heglie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Our hearts are with you Rayder and family. We both loved Marlis. I got to know her so much better at our summer reunions. She was a great talker AND writer..I always had fun talking to her and appreciating her wisdom and her very witty personality! She was a very special kind of woman and we will miss her tremendous! Dear Rude Family:
Marlys was like a Mom and Grandma to my family and me. We will miss her sneaky little chuckle and smile, her eyebrow raises and funny comments dearly! But what great memories we have of her! She was one of my best friends, a confidante’ and my Mom away from home. She had a unique way of getting her point across yet being a “crutch” of support for many of us. I used to call her early in the morning – because I knew she’d be up. We swapped many recipes, traded fresh veggies, fruit and jams. She has given me a lot of advice over the past 20 years and guided me like one of her own. She was a mentor of good faith, good cooking, honesty and doing what’s right. Whether it was about my family, faith or my career. I valued her input and knew that she truly cared. She was a very strong women and definitely a fighter. She had many struggles the past few years but would never let on to just how much she really had to endure. Lord knows she had her fair share of character and style! 🙂
My family and I will miss her more than we can say! We will always remember her and hold her dear to our hearts!
May God grant her eternal peace and I pray she knows how much she is loved and will be missed!
