Mary Reine Monson, 86, of Fargo, ND died after a long illness on Thursday, August 2, 2018 in Osage, MN, in the arms of family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. She was born on August 18, 1931 in St. Eustache, Manitoba to Euclide and Novia (Beaudry) Sauvageau. Mary grew up in Horace, ND and later moved to Fargo where she graduated from Central High School. Following graduation, she worked at Welu Dental Lab for a few years. In 1951, she married Glenn Monson. Mary was a devoted homemaker who raised 10 children. In 1969, she began her employment at Crystal Sugar in Moorhead where she worked until her retirement in 1997. Mary was an active member of Nativity Catholic Church. During Fargo floods, she helped as a volunteer with the Salvation Army. She belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. After retirement, Mary enjoyed traveling with family and friends to various parts of the U.S. She took great pride in having a beautiful yard and home. She was an excellent cook, often preparing meals for large gatherings of family and friends. Mary was extremely proud of her 10 children and all their accomplishments. Surviving her are: Bruce (Jackie) of Billings, MT; Glenn (Judy) of New Brighton, MN; Michelene (Jim) Jess of Reno, NV; Shirley (Tony) Olson of Osage, MN; Steven of Fargo, ND; Julienne (Paul) Hanson of Fargo, ND; Mary Jo (Craig) Lynde of Phoenix, AZ; Jeffrey (Genine) of Fargo, ND; Patrick of Fargo, ND; son-in-law, Virgil Mahlum of Detroit Lakes, MN. Her loving family grew to include: 24 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She has one surviving sister, Yolande (Bill) Delaney of Chandler, AZ. Mary was preceded by her parents; husband; daughter, Patricia Mahlum; and numerous loving family members and friends. We honor their memory. Memorials preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley. There will be a visitation from 5-7:00 PM with a prayer service following at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Nativity Catholic Church, Fargo. The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Nativity Catholic Church, Fargo with a visitation one hour prior. Mary’s family would like to acknowledge the Hospice of the Red River Valley for their compassion, assistance, and the wonderful care they showed our mother these past month. They also extend a warm, heart-felt, thank you everyone for their loving support during this difficult time of loss.
