Michael L. Berthold, 67, Hillsboro, passed away Monday, September 25, 2017 at his home. Mike was born March 29, 1950 in Mayville, North Dakota to Louis and Muriel (Danielson) Berthold. He graduated from Central Valley High School in 1968. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969 where he attended Officer Command School in Lawton, OK. After his honorable discharge, he attended North Dakota School of Science, graduating with a degree in Diesel Mechanics. He farmed for a short time after graduation before starting to work at farm implement dealerships in Halstad and Hillsboro. In 1992, he started Mike’s Repair in Hillsboro, which he owned and operated until 2005. He worked for a local farmer and as a truck driver until his retirement in 2012. Mike’s talents as a mechanic were widely known and he was sought after often for his knowledge and skill. He is survived by his son, John (Kari) Berthold, Thompson, ND, daughter, Michelle Berthold, Mayville, ND; 2 grandsons, Eric and Nicholas Berthold, Thompson, ND; significant other, Cindy Fankhanel, Hillsboro, ND; siblings, Richard (Cindy) Berthold, Hatton, ND, Dale Berthold, Reynolds, ND, Mary Berthold, Grand Forks, ND and Robert Berthold, Reynolds, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial Service: 10:00 A.M. October 2, 2017 at Wildeman-Boulger Funeral Home, Hillsboro.
