Ruby Mae was born to Fred and Nellie (Reed) Hudson March 26, 1924 in Bemidji, MN. Shortly after, the family moved to a farm near Halstad, MN where she met Thomas J. Thompson. Tom served in the Army Air Corp from 1942 to 1945. They were married Nov. 17, 1945 and moved to Los Angeles where Tom went to school. They returned to reside in Fargo-Moorhead with their son Richard and had three more children. Ruby was a baker and excellent cook her whole life. She worked at Concordia College, Country Kitchen, and Jiggs where her caramel rolls, pies, and doughnuts were renowned. Tom passed away in 1983. Ruby later met and married Ervin Cahlin in 1993, who died in 2002. Ruby is survived by her son Bill (Pam) Thompson, daughters Diane (Scott) Onstine, and Mary (Steve) Revland; 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, her brother, Fred (Donna)Tucson AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas J. Thompson, son, Richard James Thompson, granddaughter Erin Jacobson, son-in-law Paul Jacobson, husband Ervin Cahlin, parents Fred and Nellie, and eight siblings - Ward, David, Harold, Glen, Claude, Roger, Lois and Patty Lou. The family extends a special thank you to the staff and residents of Bethany Homes – her second family for the last 14 years. In lieu of flowers consider a donation to the charity of your choice in her name. The funeral will be in the Larsen Chapel at Bethany on 42nd at 11:00 am Thursday with visitation from 10:00 to 10:45 am in the chapel. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.

  1. Ruby contributed much to my life, from Halstad farm days, through holidays while in high school and college. Through a procession of houses in Fargo and Moorhead, she was a gracious host. she really cared. Bethany became a new house-home for visits and reunions. Who will carry her glow and love?

  4. I am so sorry to hear about Ruby! She was a wonderful lady and I so enjoyed visiting with her, just last month. I am now thankful that I stopped and got one last Hug! Thanks for sharing her with me!

  5. I was so sad to hear of her passing. Sorry I was unable to attend her service at Bethany. She was a great lady and very kind to her brother Roger when they both were at Bethany. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all.
