Willard L. Krueger, 83, Fargo passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo surrounded by his family. Willard Leroy Krueger was born May 13, 1934 in Lehr, North Dakota to Albert F. and Lena (Grabau) Krueger. Willard graduated from Jamestown High School in 1953. He volunteered for the draft and entered the U.S. Army, serving from 1953-1955. He was a crane and shovel instructor in Fort Leonardwood, MO and in Etajima, Japan. On June 9, 1956 he married Ruth Thompson at Woodworth Lutheran Church in Woodworth, ND. At that time he worked for Gamble Robinson. Later, he started school at Wahpeton State School of Science in the Architectural Drafting and estimating department. In 1957, he worked for the City of Jamestown, ND as assistant City Engineer. Later he went back to his love of operating crane and shovels. In 1961, he began working at Camp Grafton, Devils Lake, ND. While in Devils Lake, the Army National Guard sent him to Fort Belvoir, VA. Willard completed the engineer equipment mechanic course at the Engineer School as an honor student. During the 12 week course, he received instruction in the maintenance of heavy construction equipment and was trained in gasoline and diesel engine repair. After leaving Camp Grafton, he became a railway mail clerk. He rode the rails from Jamestown to Miles City, MT. He later became a mail carrier at the Jamestown Post Office and later Fargo, retiring in 1990. He belongs to the American Legion and was a life member of the AMVETS and N.A.L.C. (National Association of Letter Carriers). He was active with the A.F.L.C.I.O (49ers) and W.M.S.T.R. (Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion), where he operated the 1921 Marion Steam Shovel. He was also a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 215, Olivet Lutheran Church. Willard was a talented craftsman, building several custom license plate birdhouses for his family. His favorite quote was “where there’s a Will there’s a way, and Will is here.” In May, 2017 he was presented with the NALC Gold Card and pin for 50 years as an active member. He is survived by his wife Ruth, Fargo; children, Nancy (John) Skarphol, Fargo, ND, Wayne (Lowann) Krueger, Fargo, ND, Neil (Brenda) Krueger, Fargo, Karen (Bill) Johnson, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Adam (Bobbi) Skarphol, Nicholas (Kara) Skarphol, Gabriel (Maia) Skarphol, Taylor Krueger, Cerise (Dutch) VanLuven, Mandy Hough, Logan Krueger, Samantha (Kenny) Keller, Drew Johnson, Leah Johnson; great-grandchildren, William Skarphol, Maxwell Skarphol, Bailey Skarphol, Karter Skarphol, Tristen VanLuven, Sawyer Hough, Ayden Krueger; sister, Lila (Doug) Dehne, Mandan, ND; sisters-in-law, Sally Thompson, Lakeland, MN, Phyllis Krueger, Napa, CA; brother-in-law, James Schlenker and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Prayer Service: 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Boulger Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, Fargo with visitation starting at 6:00 P.M. Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo with visitation starting at 10:00 A.M. Burial: Fargo Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

    So sorry for your loss. Willard was a kind, smart person I remember from my childhood on 14th Avenue. I remember Willard always working on projects around his home.
