Larry D. Haugen, 79, Dilworth, MN formerly Moorhead, MN passed away Monday, October 25, 2021 at his home with his loving wife by his side.
Larry was born August 13, 1942 in Thief River Falls, MN to Conrad and Corinne (Thompson) Haugen. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, MN in 1960. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1960-1963. He lived in both Thief River Falls and Trinidad before moving to Minneapolis, MN where he was a store manager for the Singer Corporation. He moved back to Thief River Falls where he worked for Old Peoria Wine and Spirits before opening The Club (Eatery, Billiards, and Arcade) and Catering Plus. He married Marie Hvidsten on April 18, 1986 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN. They made their home in Thief River Falls before moving to Moorhead in 2002.
Spending time with family, children, and grandchildren brought him the most joy. He loved children, and spending time with them, especially during his favorite holidays and the week of Gramma Camp. He loved time at the lake, watching the wildlife at their home on the Red River, and wood carving. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage, a wine connoisseur, loved card games and shooting a game of pool. He had a quick-witted sense of humor and had the gift of always making people laugh. He was an avid reader, storyteller, and a published author of two books. Larry was a fantastic cook and loved hosting family gatherings, both big and small.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marie, Dilworth, MN; children, Teri (Carl) Olsefsky, California, Tara (Thomas) Anderson, Prior Lake, MN, Trevor (Sarah) Haugen, West Fargo, ND, Chris (fiancé Steph Haan) Roadfeldt, Plymouth, MN, Alicia Roadfeldt, Moorhead, MN; 12 grandchildren, Tory Bang, Tamara (Nick) Price, Tina Abbene, Tristan Abbene, Carisa (Austen) Browne, Vinny Anderson, Kyler Haugen, Alex Haugen, Ethan Roadfeldt, Carter Roadfeldt, Andrew Haan, Megan Haan; 6 great-grandchildren and brother, Glen (Ann) Haugen, Thief River Falls, MN and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, brothers, Ronnie Haugen, Dick Haugen, and Dennis “Bucky” Haugen.
Celebration of Larry’s Life: 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 29, 2021 at Boulger Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, Fargo with visitation starting at 1:00 P.M.
Interment: Fargo National Cemetery.

I am happy I was able to spend time talking to Larry and Marie at Sara and Hunters wedding recently and at my home the following day.
I truly believe you had one heck of a welcoming party at those pearly gates.
I will treasure all the stories you told and all those fun Haugen Reunions with all the Haugen boys.

I will always have so many good memories of Larry. As my salesman of wine at Lons, he would be mortified with how I pronounced the wines!! He was a fun person to be around. Marie, I’m so happy you came into Larry’s life. I know how you feel now, Archie has been gone nearly 4 years. It does get better but how hard it is. Thinking about you.

I was able to watch the Memorial Service for Uncle Larry today, and it was typical of Larry- Great stories, Great Friends, and the Great Family that he Loves so Much! I especially liked the Songs that were Chosen: 🎶 Pretty Woman, Love Me Tender, and especially the last song: Lord, it’s Hard to Be Humble. . . 🎶 That made me Laugh😊 I’m sure Larry will be missed greatly by those left behind- but be Assured that He is in Heaven now- running around with my Dad & Bucky & Ronnie- and i’m sure the First thing he did after he entered the Pearly Gates, was to play multiple card games with Grandma ❤

This is Audrey, Larry’s first cousin, our fathers being twin brothers. What a wonderful video full of great memories of a remarkable man and his family. We all have blessed to be a part of the Haugen ancestry. The jest for life and sharing it with as many people as possible. Love of God, country and family, Norwegian heritage ( Lefse in particular) and passing the positive on.
