Aberdeen Pedersen Safford, 91, Hillsboro, ND, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, in the Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home. Aberdeen Virginia Peterson, known as ?Abby? or ?Birdie?, was born to Ole and Thea (Haugen) Peterson on December 6, 1911, on a farm near Lake Ida, located near Garfield, MN. She grew up on the family farm and attended Sunny Hill country school. She graduated from Alexandria High School and then moved to Minneapolis, MN, to attend business college. She worked for the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce for a period of time. She was united in marriage to Niels P. Pedersen, on May 20, 1939, at her parents? home. The couple lived on a farm near Garfield. They moved to Hillsboro in 1945. They owned and operated Midwest Feed & Produce until 1961. Niels died in 1959. Aberdeen married Harland Safford in Fargo, ND, on June 17, 1961. The couple farmed near Kelso, ND, until 1982, when Harland died. From 1969-1986, she worked as a nurse?s aid in the Hillsboro Nursing Home. She moved to Hillsboro in 1983, and into the nursing home in February 1998. She is survived by four children, Ann (Arlin) Foss, Fargo, Glen (Sharon) Pedersen, Harwood, ND, Kay Lusk, Minneapolis, and Betty (Mark) Larsen, Grand Forks, ND; 11 grandchildren, Kimberly (Ken) Switalski, Chanhassen, MN, Beth (Ross) Horner, Bismarck, ND, Julie (Mitch) Anders, San Antonio, TX; Kathy, Will and Tommy Pedersen, all of Harwood; Robert and Jonathan Lusk, both of Minneapolis, MN, James (Jesse) Lusk, St. Paul, MN; Brian Larsen, Vero Beach, FL, and Anna Larsen, Grand Forks; and 7 great grandchildren, Colton and Drew Switalski, Phoebe and Alexander Horner, Adrianna Pedersen, Devin Lusk. She was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters. Funeral services for Aberdeen will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., in Wildeman Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Hillsboro. Arrangements by Wildeman Funeral Home, Hillsboro.
