Adrian Cihak

Adrian Cihak, 87, Fargo, passed away Wednesday, October 01, 2014 at Golden Living Center, Moorhead.
Adrian was born on September 7, 1927 in Wilken County to Theodore and Christina (Koller) Cihak. He grew up on the family farm his family would say that you could take the boy out of the farm but you can’t take the farm out of the boy. Adrian attended school in Barnesville and graduated from Barnesville High School. After graduation he enlisted in the Army and served in Korea from 1951-1953. Adrian Cihak and Elaine Schwinden were married at St. Mary’s Cathedral on June 15, 1957.
Adrian Joined the Fargo Police Department in 1956 and retired as sergeant in 1987. Adrian also worked part time at Boulger Funeral Home. Adrian had a tremendous work ethic and never tired of volunteering at his church, setting up the Nativity Scene, painting the elementary school, and helping on projects throughout the year. Adrian was a member of the Barnesville VFW, the Fargo American Legion, and the Fraternal Order of Police. Adrian’s favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, enjoying nature, and competing in the Senior Olympics where he won many gold medals.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine, Fargo; his son, Damian, Fargo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his children, Courtney Cihak and Keith Cihak; and his brothers and sisters: Gladys Boltz, Albin Cihak, Lawrence Cihak, Geraldine O’Donell, Jeanette Cihak, Bernard Cihak, Marilyn Gillespie, and Julette Haugrud.

I remember growing up feeling safe at home even when my dad was away working for ma Bell because Adrian was just a few doors down. the world is a lesser place without him in it and the church lost a great worker.
Mrs. Cihak, I am so sorry for your loss. I have find memories of you and your husband from my time at St. Mary’s. I hope your memories give you comfort.

My brother Paul and I were talking last night about how Adrian always stopped by our family home on Christmas Day to say hello. He was inevitably working the holiday, but was never too busy for a brief visit. He was a kind soul and ever a gentleman. May he rest in God’s eternal peace with his dear sons.

I loved working for Adrian as a police officer in Fargo. He was such a good man and a wonderful sergeant. He truly lived the motto “to serve and protect” He will be missed!!
