Allen Bauer

Allen Robert Bauer, 69, Fargo, ND passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Rosewood on Broadway Nursing Home in the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley surrounded by his family.
Allen was born in Fargo, ND on March 9, 1947 to Benjamin and Marian Bauer. He attended St. Anthony of Padua Elementary School and Shanley High School in Fargo, ND. He married Cheryl Bauer (Kaatz) on May 27, 1972 in Hankinson, ND. Allen and Cheryl lived in Fargo all their lives.
He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from North Dakota State University and a Master of Education Degree in Musical Education from the University of North Dakota.
He taught choir, band, and musical education in Argusville, ND, Abercrombie, ND, Fargo, ND, and Moorhead, MN. He also worked at Moorhead Plumbing and Heating. He retired in 2008.
He was a member of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND where he was a member of the hand bell choir, choir, and played trumpet. He was a member of the American Legion Band and played trumpet for the Shrine Circus Band. He was a member of the FM Walleyes. He enjoyed playing golf, camping, fishing, and loved playing and listening to jazz, particularly of the Big Band era. He loved trying new foods and if there was a chocolate fan club he would have been a member.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years (Cheryl Bauer) Fargo, ND; children (Kara Bauer) New York, NY, (Kevin Bauer) Fargo, ND; expected grandson (Kota航大 Bauer); sisters (Rebecca Torkildson) Fargo, ND, (Brenda Kowalski) Dilworth, MN; nephews (Joseph Hastings) Rochester, MN, (Kelly Torkildson) Moorhead, MN, (Jared Kowalski) Dilworth, MN, (Lee Kowalski) Dilworth, MN; nieces (Shannon Crofton) West Concord, MN, (Rachelle Martini) New Hope, MN, (Laura Femrite) Kensington, MN; son-in law (John Maya) New York, NY; daughter-in-law (Maiko 麻衣子Bauer) Fargo, ND and many cousins and dear friends and neighbors.
He is preceded in death by parents (Benjamin Bauer), Fargo, ND, (Marian Bauer), Fargo, ND; his sister (Patricia Hastings) Rochester, MN.
A funeral service will be held at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church at 2 pm with Pastor Doug Klungtvedt. Visitation will be at 1 pm at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church. Burial will follow funeral service at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Fargo.

We are so sorry for your loss. Al was a great father, husband and friend. His family always came first. His friends and family at Pontoppidan church will truly miss him. He was a talented man in many ways, especially in his musical gifts, which he shared generously with his church family.
Allen was one of the kindest careing people I know.as a musician and first cousin we worked together briefly on the bnsf. And played in the legion band. He was a great inspiration to all who knew him ..we will never forget him.
I never had the pleasure to meet Allen, but I am friends with his nephew, Kelly. He always had such nice things to say about his uncle. I wish I could have meet him. Your family has my sincerest sympathies for your loss.
I have found memories of Al. He was on our mini reunion list for the class of ’65 this July. We’ll miss him ..RIP
Allen was such a kind and caring soul that left us with so many great memories. He will be sorely missed by this world.

Mr. Bauer had a big impact on my life. He was my band and choir teacher at Richland #44 from 7th -10th grade. I have many great memories of him. Such fun we had in pep band, state music contests in Minot, and marching in so many parades! It was under his guidance and direction that I learned how to accompany choirs and small groups. Because if his encouragement, I believed in myself and what I could do with music. I went on to major in music in college, and have been the elementary music teacher in Abercrombie since 1985. Thank you, Mr. Bauer for sharing your love of music with me. Blessed be your memory.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Mr Bauer. He was a kind and patient band teacher who made a difference in the lives of many young people. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
Thanks for your dedication to the Post No. 2 American Legion Band. You were a talented 1st chair trumpet player in many groups. Not only could you tune up a band, but you were equally talented tuning up furnaces! You will be missed. Rest in peace, Al.

Allen was so cool. I remember a story that he was home alone for Halloween, ran out of candy, tied a sucker in his hand with a string to retrieve it….
