Obituary

Anjali Kumari Lall was born on September 21, 1995 in Fargo, ND to Rita and Vinod Lall of Fargo, ND.

Anjali just completed her Freshman year at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Campus, where she planned to study biochemistry before attending medical school. She was involved in volunteer work and research and her passion for helping others was evident in everything that she did. She was a devoted student and volunteer.

Anjali truly touched the lives of those around her. As a graduate of Davies High School, Anjali left her mark on the Fargo community. She was active in debate club, orchestra, and Fill the Dome. Always putting the needs of others before her own,  Anjali was a devoted friend and sister.

She is survived by her parents, Rita and Vinod Lall;  her sister, Naveena Lall; and extended family in the United States and India.

    Dear Vinod and Rita:
My words cannot express the shock and sorrow I felt when Mary Jane told me about your loss. I never met Anjali, but I know how proud of her you both were. By what you told me and by what I read about her, she must have been a very sweet, caring, and intelligent young lady. Both of your daughters were always topics in our conversations. As a mother, I cannot imagine how painful her loss is for you and the family. I hope you find some comfort in the love of your family and friends. Please accept my sincere sympathy.

I had her in orchestra for a couple of years and admired her self-discipline, confidence, and quiet leadership as she set an example for other students. She touched the lives of many young adults and she will be remembered with nothing but positive thoughts! My prayers are with your family for healing and acceptance.

Anjali was part of my group for Foundations of Biology. The way the class is set up, you are constantly interacting with your classmates. I got to know Anjali very well and boy was I impressed with her character and work ethic. For every project we had to do, she made sure that all the work was submitted before the deadline. She also made sure no group member felt left out. She was quiet and composed each and every time. I also got the chance to speak with her outside of class a few times when we bumped into one another, and it was amazing how much she was always trying to better humanity. Each one of us became like family members and we each are taking this loss as if we lost a family member. My prayers go out to Anjali and your family. In her 19 years of life, she has sure made such a bright impact on this world. And that impact will continue on with us for the rest of our lives.

I was a close friend to Anjali in Foundations of Biology class this year. It has come as a shock to me when I received the news she has passed, and I am still in utter dismay. Anjali was the sweetest, kindest, and one of the most friendly people to enter my circle, and it thickens my lung to comprehend that such an amazing and beautiful person has been taken away from us. Anjali was inspiring. In the time I had known her, there was not a single thing I could have found that was negative about her. Always had a smile on her face, always cheering others up and on. Anjali was a close friend and my heart goes out to you. May she rest in peace.

I was so saddened to hear the news of Anjali’s passing. I had the privilege of having Anjali in my classroom as a student. I was always so impressed by her poise and demeanor, her willingness to help and work with others, and her gentle spirit. She was such a leader and taught so many, myself included, how to work hard and have respect for everyone. My prayers will be with you today and in the days to come as you grieve this loss.

  89. Shana Haugen says:

Fargo Anjali was such a special girl. I was one of her speech and debate coaches in high school. We all know that she was incredibly smart, incredibly hard working, and set her goals high. More importantly, she was a good person. She was a good friend to her friends, and a kind face to those who may have needed more friends. Nobody said anything bad about her – even when she was totally beating them in almost every event she entered. Her schedule was relentless, but she never complained. Her classes were tough, but she still gave up her free time to volunteer, spend time with family, and help the community. She will truly be missed and never forgotten.

I’m really sad to hear about the loss of Anjali. My thoughts and prayers are with Naveena and the rest of Anjali’s family. Anjali was an amazing person with a great mind and exceptional heart. She was wonderful to have around in Speech and Debate, and it was great watching her impact on our community through the Fill the Dome, Arts Partnership and being one of the YWCA Women of the Year. She truly had a gift for taking her talents and putting them to work in order to make an impact.

Anjali left us far to soon, but her impact on her friends and her community will still be felt for years to come.

It is a rare thing to meet someone who lives every day to the fullest, and especially someone so young, but Anjali is a prime example of just that. What an honor and a privilege to have known this phenomenal young woman. I never had the honor of teaching Anjali in the classroom setting however, I was able to work with her in some of the many philanthropic aspects she enjoyed. Anjali possessed something rare, a giving heart with an endless supply of compassion and problem solving abilities. Anjali encountered problems head-on, and didn’t back down to them she wanted to solve them, and thus a woman of action was born. In my years working with her, she volunteered her time and many talents in too many ways to list. She taught me far more than I could ever take credit of teaching her. Her legacy and story will be carried on in every leader I mentor as she is the young woman who set a precedence in every leadership role she embraced. What a mark she left on this world may we all live our lives to the fullest in honor of Anjali.
