Annabelle R. Vangsness, age 87, of Kindred, ND, died on March 27, 2008 at MeritCare, Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.
Annabelle Salle was born on May 29, 1920 in Mott, ND to Anton and Martha (Haakenstad) Salle. She graduated from high school in Mott and went on to Dickinson State Teacher?s College. She received her Teaching Certificate and taught in the western part of the state for a time before moving to teach at the Viking School near Walcott, ND. She taught there one year before attending Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND. She completed a one year business degree and worked at the Cass County Treasurer?s Office until she married Alfred Vangsness on June 1, 1947 at her sister Hilma?s home in rural Kindred, ND. She returned to teaching in 1967, taking a second grade class in Davenport. After the school consolidation she continued teaching in Davenport and Kindred. She retired in 1983 after 21 years in the classroom. The couple farmed in the Davenport area for many years. She moved to Elim Care Center in 2005.
She was an active member of Davenport Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School and holding various offices in the Ladies Aid. She was involved in both the Davenport and Kindred Senior Citizens, serving as the Treasurer of the Davenport group for 6 years. She enjoyed sewing, painting, reading, and crafts.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred; children: Gerald Vangsness (Dianna) Walcott, ND, Sharon Taggart (Steven) Port Huron, MI, Adele Reed (Dennis) Naples, FL, Janet Bergum (James) Howell, NJ; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchild; and sister: Clara Drotts, Deer River, MN.
She was preceded by her parents; and sisters: Hilma Nettum and Myrtle Andvik.
The funeral for Annabelle will be March 31, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Davenport Lutheran Church, Davenport, ND. The Prayer Service will be Sunday, March 30th at the Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Kindred, ND at 7:00pm with Visitation from 5-7pm. Burial will be at Kindred Cemetery, Kindred, ND.
