Arne Oien Jr
Arne Oien Jr., 66, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021 in his home in Moorhead, MN.
Arne “Punkie” Leon Oien Jr. was born September 17, 1954 to Arne Sr. and Violet (Kline) Oien in Moorhead, MN. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1973. He enrolled in the Moorhead Technical College and Institute and graduated with a degree in carpentry.
Arne entered the US Army March 1975. He served a total of nine years with three of those years being in Germany. He was very proud of his military service with his final rank as an SGT E-5. He held positions as a Bridge Crewman, Powered Bridge Specialist and Combat Engineer.
Arne met the love of his life, his queen, Bonnie Manthey in 1981, and they were married November 26, 1982 in Halstad, MN.
Arne was a very kind and generous person, always putting others first. He was very hardworking and dependable. He worked for Agway/Cenex Harvest States for 33 years as machine operator and supervisor. He had a passion for helping his neighbors, friends and many others with projects. Arne greatly enjoyed all animals and spending time on his hobby farm. Arne loved classic cars, listening to music, roller skating and tinkering with his tools. He had one of the greenest thumbs around as he was always in his gardens or planting trees.
Arne loved his children and his grandchildren very much. At Christmas he always loved dressing up as Santa and giving gifts to everyone or ringing the bell for the Salvation Army.
Arne is survived by his wife of 38 years, Bonnie, children Jayr (Jessica) Oien, Shawnray (Alisha) Oien, Benjamin Oien, Angela Oien, Jadie (Justin) Winters, Darcy (Tyler) Larson, sister Sandra Huss, 21 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Arne was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Patricia Weiss, Sharon Wickoren, a brother Steven Oien, and grandson Cage Larson.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m., Friday, June 11, at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo, N.D. Burial with military honors will take place after the memorial service at Riverside Cemetery in Moorhead, MN.
The service will be live streamed on the Boulger Funeral Home’s website at 2p.m. on Friday.

Dear Oien Family, We are heartbroken for you all. Arne was one of the most unique and wonderful neighbors we’ve ever known. After leaving you as a backyard neighbor in north Moorhead, we missed the friendly visits and help from him so much. We had a good visit while standing in line at Bakers last summer with our masks on…a fun coincidence that we both landed in line at the same time!!! He was one of a kind….and will be greatly missed by many!!!

Arnie was the best brother in law ever…. He was there when i had to put my german shepard shade down…. He helped me find my other german shepard shadow that got shot by a mean person… He was there to wipe my tear and give me hugs. He changed my door locks when i had people comming into my home when i wasnt there… He cared for my safety…. I loved you brother… Ill see you on the other side. Ill miss your goofy jokes … They alway made me laugh….Thank you for being in my life.. love you…

I’ve been told that Punkie babysat my brother and I when we were small. Recently, in the last five years, we reconnected with Punkie, through my brother. He will truly be missed! He was always willing to give a helping hand, share his produce, and visit/chat. I’m sorry for your loss. He was a great friend!

I know your with Steve! I will forever miss you – coming over to visit, because you always give me the greatest gift. After Steve passed away years down the road I forgot what he sounded like. Out of the blue you would show up for a visit and that voice of yours was the Oien voice. It always brought a smile to my face along with a little bit of sadden. You made it a point to stop by once or twice a year and I’m forever thankful for that. You kept an eye out for me when Steve passed away even when I remarried Carl. You never stopped coming I will truly miss you!

I am a friend of Punky’s Sister, Sandie.
I felt I knew him through her. He was so special to her. Throughout the years she told me of Family events, his children and he was always right there to help her and everyone else he knew!
These are the kind of people we should have more of in this World. These are the kind of people God loves and wants all of us to be like; caring and loving, humble and kind.
