Arnold A. Bolgrean, 89, Moorhead, formerly Barnesville, MN, passed away Thursday, June 21 at Sanford Health, Fargo.

Arnold, son of Clarence W. and Anna F. (Durensky) Bolgrean was born on his family’s farm in Atherton Township on August 31, 1922 near Barnesville. He attended country school and Barnesville High School.

On January 26, 1945 he was drafted in the U.S. Army. He served in the Philippines and Korea. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant while in Korea. On December 7, 1946 he was discharged from the service.

On October 13, 1948 he married Avis Stearns. They were married until 1971 when Avis passed away.   Arnold worked for the Great Northern Railroad in 1954 before he was laid off and went to work for Cook Sign Co. He worked there for 20 years, and at Kegel Sign Company for 2 years. In July 1975 he and three partners purchased Hegland Sign Company. In August 1985, he and his partners sold their company and Arnold retired.

On July 15, 1983 he married Katherine (Bernier) Bolgrean. They made their home in Barnesville. They moved to Moorhead in 2006 where he lived until the time of his death.

Arnold was an avid painter and wood worker. He also enjoyed playing golf, ice fishing and gardening in his retirement. Arnold always enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and making people laugh. During his later years, he especially loved spending time with his family and sitting in his swing enjoying the outdoors, playing solitaire and putting puzzles together.

Arnold was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Barnesville VFW and American Legion.

Arnold is survived by his wife, Katherine “Kitty”; step-daughter, Connie (Ernie) Peasley, Barnesville MN;  stepsons, Gary (Deb), Moorhead MN, Loren, Fargo ND, Tom (Tiffany), Fargo ND, brother; Maurice (Estelle), Moorhead MN, 9 step-grandchildren, 6 step great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Avis, brothers, Al, Cliff, Clarence, Norman, Lloyd, Loren and sister, Shirley.
