Arnold T. Nereson, age 81, died on Thursday, July 8, 2004, in Bethany Homes, Fargo, under Hospice care. Arne was born January 31, 1923 in Highlanding, Minn., the son of George and Sophie (Tollefson) Nereson. His parents died when Arne was very young and he was raised by relatives in the Gaylord area. He returned to Gary to live with relatives and graduated from Gary High School in 1941. Arne attended North Dakota State University in Fargo from 1941 until 1943, and was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. He then enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He went to Germany on November 8, 1944 - the second day of ?D? Day - where he served with the 200th General Hospital and the 317th Station Hospital in England, France, and Germany as a medic. He was honorably discharged on April 24, 1946. Arne graduated from the University of Santa Fe with a Bachelor of Science degree. He began working at the Los Alamos Scientific Lab in 1946 in the Physics and Purchasing Department from which he retired in 1980. Arne was united in marriage to Ethel Piper in 1957. They had one son, Bruce. They then moved to Albuquerque, NM, and lived there until 2000 when they moved to Fargo. Arne is survived by his wife, Ethel, Fargo; three children, Bruce (Janice) Nereson, Fargo; Ronald, Colorado, and Patty, Colorado; four grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Amsbury, Albuquerque; and one brother, Norris (Jean), Los Alamos. A memorial service will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, Fargo, on Monday, July 12, 2004, at 11 a.m. Visitation will began at 10 a.m. in the church. Burial will be held in Riverside Cemetery in Fargo with Military Honors provided by the Fargo VFW. Arrangements by Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Kindred, and Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
