Bernice Porter Hunter, North Dakota Bernice, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, November, 19, 2008 at the Arthur Good Samaritan Center surrounded by her family. Bernice Martin was born on November 21, 1913, the daughter of John and Zelda (Kennedy) Martin in Hardtner, KS. At an early age she moved with her family to North Dakota where they settled on a farm near Kelso, ND. She grew up in this area and received her education, graduating from Bohnsack Consolidated School. She also attended Mayville State Teacher?s College. Bernice was united in marriage to Keith Porter on December 1, 1934 in Moorhead, MN. After their marriage, they lived and farmed in Bohnsack Township, west of Grandin. In 1964 they moved to Fargo and returned to farming north of Hunter in 1968. They built a home in Hunter in 1978 and spent many winters at their home in Mesa, AZ. Bernice was well known for her crocheting of afghans which she shared with all of her family. Family was very important to Bernice and she took great pride in all of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her one great-great granddaughter. She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies and greatly loved the time spent with all of her family. Bernice was a long time member of the Grandin Presbyterian Church and later an active member of the Hunter Presbyterian Church. Bernice is survived by one daughter, Joanne (Harold) Voje of Rochert, MN; three sons, Ronald (Gloria) Porter of Grandin, ND; Lynn (Pat) Porter of Hillsboro, ND; and John (Ann) Porter of Hunter, ND; two sisters, Marjorie Kolegraf of West Fargo, ND; and Phyllis Hashberger of Spokane, WA. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, LuAnn (Doug) Buehre of West Fargo, ND, and their children, Traci (Derrick) Sprague, Jeremy and Nicholas; Darlene (Jim) Lewis of Avon, MN, and their children, Adam and Daniel; Karen (Dale) Sieling of Glyndon, MN, and their children Elizabeth, Lindsay, Ashley, and Keith; Kevin Voje of Chaska, MN, and his children, Sam, Eric and Margaret; Mark (Donna) Porter of Hunter; Steven Porter of Hunter; Joel Porter of Grandin; Lisa (Jim) Plummer of Tyndall, SD, and their children Emily and Austin and Matthew; Michael (Theresa) Porter of Orlando, FL, and their child, Ebony; Greg (Patty) Porter of Walhalla, ND, and their children, Brittany, Emily, Brady, Calle Jo Lynn, and Molly; Julie (Terry) Karger of Dilworth, MN, and their children, Taylor, Tanner and Kiley; and Jeffrey (Minto) Porter of St. Cloud, MN, and their children, Spencer and Sophia; and one great-great granddaughter, Brooke Sprague. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Arthur; and sisters, Eunice, Lavonne, and Ruth. VISITATION: 6-7:30 PM Sunday, November 23, 2008 at Wildeman Funeral Home in Hillsboro ? and also one hour prior to the service in the church on Monday PRAYER SERVICE: 7:30 PM Sunday, November 23, 2008 at Wildeman Funeral Home FUNERAL SERVICE: 2 PM Monday, November, 24, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hunter, ND BURIAL: Hunter Cemetery Arrangements entrusted to the care of Wildeman Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
