Berniece Glendora Oscarson Braaten of Fargo, formerly of Kindred, passed away on January 14, 2014, surrounded by family.  She was born to Oscar & Louise Oscarson on June 7, 1914, at their home near Colfax, ND.  She was baptized in Stearns Lutheran Church by Pastor Engebretson June 21, 1914 and confirmed June 2, 1928, in Richland Lutheran Church by Pastor Nelson.

Berniece loved school and attended Richland County schools and graduated from Christine High School with honors.  She was trained as a nurse and worked at the Fargo Hospital.

Berniece met Oscar Braaten at the Crystal Ballroom in Fargo and they were married October 12, 1938 in the Richland Lutheran Church.  They were married for 53 years.

Berniece was the ultimate church lady at Gol Lutheran Church near Kindred.  She was a council member for 6 years, assistant organist for 25 years, Sunday School teacher for 16 years, and Sunday School superintendent for 8 years.  She always eagerly provided food and support for any function at the church.

Berniece was a 4-H leader for 15 years and treasured her time with young people.  She was president, secretary and delegate for the Kindred Senior Citizens for 13 years.  She served as president for the Kappa Delta Mothers Club at NDSU.  She was an active volunteer at the Sons of Norway in Fargo.

In 1969, she took advanced nursing training and became a private nurse of 18 years.

Her joys in life came from music, photography, gardening, volunteering, and travel to Norway with family.

Berniece is survived by son Odell (Marjorie) Braaten and daughter Sharon (Michael) Anderson; three grandchildren, Jody Link, Robert (Kelly) Braaten, and Aaron (Jenny) Anderson; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Braaten, Jaden Link, and Brynn Anderson; and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by two brothers, Lynal and Orvin, parents Louise and Oscar Oscarson, step-father Ole Jacobson, infant daughter Sharon Lou, and husband Oscar Braaten.
