Obituary

Boyd Cleburn Braaten was born April 6, 1924 to Bernhard and Clara (Skare) Braaten in Garborg township, North Dakota. He was baptized by Rev. Ivar Morsund at Gol Aal (Grace) Lutheran Church on April 20, 1924. He graduated from Wyndmere High School in 1942. He attended NDSS in Wahpeton. He farmed in Richland County all of his life, retiring in 1993. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran in rural Wyndmere and Peace Lutheran in Fargo. He served on the church council and taught Sunday school and Bible study. Boyd served on the board of Kindred Oil and Colfax Elevator.

Boyd enjoyed farming and loved the smell of freshly turned soil and the beauty of waves of grain. His interests included geneology, traveling, woodworking and spending time with family.

Boyd married Ardith Wiley at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisbon, ND on December 28, 1953. He is survived by his wife Ardith, three daughters Carla (Gerald Pratt), Dawn (Craig Salsman), Ann (Timothy Ray) all of Fargo; three grandsons, Jason Chambliss (Bonnie), Corpus Christi, TX, Evan and Andrew Salsman of Fargo and three great grandchildren, Rebecca Bailey, Sabrina and Jacob Chambliss of Corpus Christi, TX. Boyd is also survived by a brother Norris Braaten (Joyce) of Hankinson, ND, three sisters, Adeline Garrison, Baltimore, MD, Bernice Koski (Les) Millersport, OH, Clara Mellum (Reuben) Columbus, OH, and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Gladys, and brothers Neuman and Iver.

Boyd died on Thursday April 19th at Rosewood after a long battle with Alzheimers disease.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm, Monday, April 23rd at Boulger Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 24 with Rev Marvin Schoenfish officiating. Burial will be at 2:45 at the Gol Aal Cemetery in rural Wyndmere.
