Candace you will be missed. You passed on your love of music to both my boys. You were a wonderful teacher. RIP.

Dear Forness family and fellow musicians; my sympathies to you on the loss of Candace.
I had not been in contact with her nearly 10 years as I had moved out-of-state and was most saddened to hear of her of her tragic sickness and death. I knew Candace as a fellow student and orchestra member at Fargo South High followed by the FM Symphony. The Fargo South Orchestra conductors at this time were Mr Tim Running and Mr Bruce Houglum. They were both enjoyable teachers who were not afraid to challenge us. They made rehearsals fun despite the work required.
Candace was a quiet, soft-spoken, humble person. However, if you were so privileged to hear her play her viola, it was clearly her viola who did the speaking. She could make her viola speak where words could not. It takes a tremendous amount of courage, perseverance and character to perform in front of others but to Candace, sharing her music with others was medicine to her soul. She was privileged to be a viola student of the late Mary King Osterfield of Moorhead.
We shared many fun times practicing and riding the bus for school concerts, All-state auditions and performances, regional and state music contests. We felt very important as part of a high school string quartet to be actually hired and paid well to play at occasional private weddings and a few fancy christmas parties.
Her gifts as an individual and musician will truly be missed by the FM Community. I feel blessed to have had her as my friend.

Dear Candace, you were the root of my love for music. I remember six years ago when I became your student. I will never forget the importance that you put on scales and practicing on specific areas instead of playing it through, no matter how stressful it gets. I will never forget your love for Halloween and how every year you wanted to one up yourself. Thank you for being a friend and beloved teacher. Rest in Peace, you are missed.
