Carl Grothmann

Carl Grothmann Grandin, North Dakota Carl passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2006, at the Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home at the age of 90. Carl was born on June 6, 1916, the son of August and Anna (Bettermann) Grothmann, in Grandin. He was baptized on July 9, 1916 and confirmed on August 17, 1930 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Grandin. He grew up in Grandin and received his education. On February 23, 1973, Carl was united in marriage to Gertrude Grothmann. Carl farmed his entire life in Grandin. He was very active in his church where he served on many boards, including the finance committee, stewardship committee, served as a trustee and usher for many years. He was also a charter member of the Grandin Fire Department. Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing basketball and baseball and the occasional game of pool. Carl is survived by his loving wife, Gertrude of Hillsboro; his step son, Joel (Connie) Grothmann; grandsons, Ross, Mark and Adam Grothmann; his brother, Henry ?Hank? Grothmann of Hillsboro; his sisters, Anna Grothmann of Hillsboro; Irene Gesell of Miltona, Minnesota; and Elaine (Jim) Johnston of Parkers Prairie, Minnesota; and several very special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Willy and August; his sisters, Marian Mayo and Martha Grothmann; and his brother-in-law, Sy Gesell.
