March 26, 1931 - April 12, 2016

Clarence Hehn, 85, of Fargo, passed away peacefully at Sanford Medical Center on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 with family at his side.

Clarence was born on March 26, 1931 in Streeter, North Dakota to Gustav and Carolina (Remboldt) Hehn. Following his mother’s death, he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Henry and Mathilda Hehn of Streeter. He graduated from Streeter High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and served two years until his discharge.

Clarence married Betty Dammel from Medina; they had three children: Julie, Mikel, and Steven. He attended Mohler Barber College in Fargo, and later purchased and operated Broadway Barber Shop, where he worked until his retirement in 1993.

In 1975, he married Daryl McKenzie, and they made their home in Fargo. After retiring, they enjoyed many winters in Mesa, AZ, as well as great summer times at their cabin on Lake Melissa.
Faith and family were the center of Clarence’s life. He was a member of Fargo Baptist Church. Fishing and wood working were his favorite hobbies. Clarence loved people and was known to find friends or acquaintances wherever he went.

He is survived by his wife, Daryl, of Fargo; daughter, Julie Johnson, Loveland, CO; sons, Mikel and Steven Hehn of Sartell, MN; and four stepchildren, Nancy McKenzie, Fargo; Cathy (James) Nelson, Coon Rapids, MN; Brian (Diane) McKenzie, Dilworth, MN; and Mona Martell, Jamestown, ND.

Clarence was a fun and doting grandfather, who is survived by 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by a sister, Delores Gordon, Sacramento, CA; and a brother, Maylan (June) Keim, of Peoria, AZ.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ernie Hehn.

From Cathy & Jim some comforting words for all of us… “I cried to the Lord in my distress. The Lord answered by setting me free. I shall not die but live & declare the works of the Lord. This is the gate of the Lord. He who is righteous may enter here.” Psalm 118 And with it… “To open the gate, the cross is our key, and there on its wood is the blood of the Lamb that sets us free.” (JMN) We place Clarence in God”s eternal & loving arms.

Very sorry to learn of Clarence’s passing and regret we cannot be there for Daryl and the family. Clarence was a good man. A welcomed addition to our extended family, his friendship was deeply valued by my grandparents and parents. I can only imagine he’s playing cards with Jim and Mary or exchanging stories with Phil now. He will be missed.
