Daniel Jahner

daniel jahner

Dan Jahner, 56, from Detroit Lakes, MN died unexpectedly on Monday, February 20, 2012.

Dan was born July 23, 1955 in Bismarck, ND to Bart and Victoria Jahner.  Dan grew up in Fargo, ND and graduated from South High in 1974.

He married Linda Marie Erickson in 1982.  A 33 year veteran of Case IH, one of Dan's greatest joys was working and commuting side by side with his father, Bart, for over 20 plus years.  Dan later became employed with Airgas and loved working with the public and thoroughly enjoyed his co-workers, who would inevitably become close friends.

Dan had a love for life, family, friends and animals.  He worked hard and played hard.  Playing cards, hanging out at the lake and working on cars in his man cave were things he enjoyed.

Dan will be remembered for his love of cars aka "Motorhead."  He had an unending array of one liners.  It was hard to go anywhere and not find someone who knew Dan.

He is survived by his wife and soul mate of 30 years, Lyn; his two dogs, Blue and Libby; cats, Lucky, Tia, and Haley; mother-in-law, Lois; brother-in-laws, Gary (Sarah) Erickson, Dave (Cari) Erickson; five sisters, Judy Aalgaard, Sandra (Lee) Ptomey, Debra Flieth, Tammy (Karry) Hoganson and Vicky (Dan) Regan; two brothers, Tim (Carol) Jahner, Tom (Lori) Jahner; 17 nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by parents, Bart and Victoria Jahner; father-in-law, Wallace Erickson; brother-in-law, Terry Aalgaard and niece, Megan Jahner.

  2. Grand Junction COLORADODear Lyn. You don’t know me, but I spent many childhood hours and days with Dan and his sibs. We lived across the street from Jahners. I also played music in Jahner’s basement with Buddy. I saw Dan for a few minutes at the Hotel at the lakes when I was up last summer, and we shared a lot of laughs in a very short period of time. We traded contact info, and I was hoping to get in touch when we come up north this summer. I’m sorry for your loss of Dan, and grateful for the early years I shared with him and the rest of his family.

  3. Dear Lynn,

I was shocked to hear about Dan. Memories of him are of much laughter and making life everything it could be. He will be thought of often and missed much.

    Condolences,
    Julie Gnoinsky-Smith

  4. lakeville mnLyn,
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Dan was a great friend in highschool. I will never forget the day I got moved to varsity on the football team as a sophmore. I was scared and intimidated. Dan came over to me and immediately took me in under his wing. We were good friends for the rest of school. I remember driving around in his cars with my head between my knees.
I know you don’t know me I just wanted you to know he will be missed and he left a great lasting impression on many many people.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family

  5. San Francisco CaliforniaLyn, our condolences for you and your family. Mom (Betty Keenan) told me about Dan’s passing. I can still see and hear Dan laughing with my husband Michael on Mom and Dad’s Sauk Centre deck during a family reunion years ago. Now they both can once again have a reunion but without us. You and your mom as well as Dan’s family are in my thoughts, and I’m sorry that you’re having to follow my path of widowhood too. Please know if you need to talk late in the night when everyone else is sleeping, I’m available on west coast time, ok?
    With healing hugs —

  10. West Fargo North dakotaLyn
So sorry to hear about Dan’s passing. My name is Fred Rodriguez from West Fargo, we worked together @ Steiger Tractor Co. back in the 80’s. Dan was a always laughing, telling a joke (that you could not repeat). I’ve ran into him over the years around town and @ Airgas Co. Just a little grayer but still the funny boy!
If God is looking for someone with a good heart and smile, “he chose wisely”.
God bless the Jahner Family today and watch over Dan.
    Fred Rodriguez

  11. Andover MN
We only were privileged to meet Dan on a few occasions but were impressed with his ability to instill the feeling that you should enjoy life to its fullest as long as you can. Unfortunately his presence was cut shorter than we all would have liked. He is now a memory that we will never forget… We thank him for the memories. God Bless him and all that knew and loved him.

  12. Fargo ND
    Lindy,

You are in our thoughts at this difficult and sad time. Dan was so positive and upbeat whenever we saw him. It will be difficult driving by “Hollywood Beach” at the lakes knowing there will not be his welcoming smile and presence.

    Lyn and the Jahner family,

I will always remember the great times I had with Dan over the years. How when he called he would say “Kurt Jahner” and you could tell he was smiling as he talked even on the phone. Enthusiasm, ambition and great sense of humor. That was Dan and he will be missed.

    Dear Lyn,

We are all saddened by the sudden death of Dan. Dan has thought us so much about life and how to enjoy it to its fullest. He made us laugh at times we really needed it. Dan was the best neighbor and a friend one could only wish for. I remember working with him in a garage until the sunrise regardless of the weather outside and had always looked forward to the next project Dan had in mind. We thank God to have had a chance to be neighbors with you and Dan. You are in our prayers.

Linda, and all your family–I am so sorry for your loss. I am having a hard time believing that Dan is gone—so full of life-smiling, and joking all the time. I worked with Dan, and Bart, and never a dull moment! When ever I would visit–always glad to see you.I would say,’What project you got going now?’—Then Dan would say–‘GOT-ER MADE YA KNOW’. Blue–[his dog] always by his side–and also the BLACK dog.Fun times, LOTS OF MEMORIES! WHAT A LOSS! May GOD Hug you TIGHT!

If you had to sum up Dan in one word, it would be “genuine”! As a teenager, that might mean getting a “hello” with a wide smile in the hallways at Fargo South. Or during the times that I did run into him in the years since, if he asked “how are you going?”, he meant it. Great attitude, great zest for life. Thoughts and prayers go out to sister Debbie and the rest of the Jahner family.

  30. Kearney NebraskaDiane and I are so sorry to hear of Dan’s passing. Like my sister Carrie said, Dan had a great smile. In fact, in all the memories I have of him, he was always smiling. The photo on this page was perfect. Our class is hurting this week. We know your family will have plenty of support.

Who ever thought Superman would go, much less at such a young age. Dan was Superman to me. He blazed the trail and was truly a leader in our circle. We all lived vicariously through Dan. No one gave me more belly laughs than Dan did. No one made me feel as strong and confident than when Dan was with me. In fact, he played next to me on the O & D line and we had fun! I will always love you, partner. Thanks so very much for all the GREAT memories and for always watching my blind side. We all love you, man! All our love and support to your brothers and sisters and a special wish to Lynn! We are better for all your gifts and will mourn your loss the rest of our days! Mark & Denise Larson
