Darlene Kay Munter, age 78, took the hand of Jesus and passed into eternity on August 29, 2020. She was born on January 15, 1942 to Henry and Anine (Mikkelsen) Bak. She grew up and attended school in Centerville, SD and was baptized and confirmed at Scandia Lutheran Church. She married Rodney Blumer on October 28. 1961 and they had three children who adored her; Sherrie, Shelia and Dan. On July 14, 1990 she married Kenny Munter and moved to North Dakota to start a new chapter, becoming mom and grandma to Kenny’s children. Darlene was a talented seamstress, an amazing cook and a forever friend to all. She was a faithful servant to her church in both Centerville, SD and Cummings, ND where she gave of her time unselfishly. She shared her cooking and quilting talents and also held many offices at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Cummings, ND; a member for 30 years. Those who gratefully shared her life include her loving husband, Kenny Munter, son Dan (Anita) Blumer, Sioux Falls, SD; daughters Sherrie (Dale) Knudson, Centerville, SD; and Shelia (Steve) Orr, Beresford, SD. Her precious grandchildren, Kathleen (Chris Langley) Knudson, Kyle Knudson, Zach (Lindsay) Orr, Eli (Alli DeLay) Orr & Max Orr and her great grandchildren Noah, Colton & Gracie Darlene. She was further blessed with son's Clayton (DeAnn) Munter, Watauga, TX; and Michael Munter, Hillsboro, ND; daughters Valerie (Wayne) Larson, Horace, ND; Sherri (Bud Vettel) Thompson, Fargo, ND; and Dawn (Rob) Munter-Murray, Davenport, ND. She cherished her grandchildren Brian Vollmer & Kenna Vollmer, Jessica (Jeremy) Alonge, Mike Munter, Jeni Wolf, Amanda (Tom) Hofer; Nick (Brittani) Rosenberg, Alissa (Mike Boser) Rosenberg, Anna (Preston) Flaten, Kelsey (Tyler) Walcker; Alex, Daniel, Aaron and Katie Munter. Great grandchildren, Tressa, Bailey, Izaac, Tyler, Caitlyn, Emma, Brooke, Ameliah, Maecy, Charlie, Edyn, Dani, Jackson, Bryer, Kennedy, Cooper, Finley, Halle, & Madison. Also sharing in her life her beloved sisters Alice Sylliaasen and Ruth Ewoldt both of Sioux Falls, SD; Brother Robert (Elsie), Ft. Pierre, SD; and sister-in-law, Elaine Bak. Her several nieces and nephews were so important to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rodney Blumer, Sister Ella Bak Anderson, Brother Harlan Bak and brothers-in-law Guy Sylliaasen and Wally Anderson. Private family services will be held at the Salem Lutheran Church in Cummings, ND. A celebration of Darlene’s life will be held at Scandia Lutheran Church, Centerville, SD on Friday, September 4, 2020 at 2 p.m. A family interment will follow at Zion Cemetery in rural Beresford. Darlene embodied kindness and caring. She has gone from this world but has left pieces of herself with each of us. Goodbye, we love you.

  4. Dan, I’m in prayer with you and the rest of the family. God calls his best people home and I know you all are grieving in these times but remember that when we grieve, Jesus grieves with us; when we cry, Jesus cries with us. Take solace in the Lord. God bless you and be with you as you mourn your mom.

  5. We all loved her very much. Such a calm, warm, compassionate, giving, selfless soul. Her love was straight from Jesus Christ, you could tell. And that is something to copy; to try to live up to. We’ve got shoes to fill.
