David Herold

David J Herold, 65, of Spring Valley, NY passed away March 5, 2014 at home.
David was born February 16, 1949 in Fargo, ND to Andrew and Maybelle (Wieglanda) Herold. David graduated from Moorhead State University in 1971, and then attended the University of California – Berkley where he graduated with a Masters in Biochemistry in 1974. He later moved to New Jersey to work in the pharmaceutical industry.
David was an accomplished bridge player, and was a member of several bridge clubs. He was also an avid reader.
David is survived by his brothers Bruce (Rosalind) Herold of Fargo, and Dean (Sheila) Herold of Fargo, along with nieces Cassandra Herold and Kelly Herold, and nephew Logan (Tara) Herold-Eichhorn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

I was so sorry to hear of my cousin’s passing. My brothers Charles and Andrew add their condolences also. David will be missed by all who knew him.
Dave Herald was a good friend to me and my family and was generous with his time and expertise. Once after completion of two weeks in Boy Scout Camp, we needed a ride, for our son Philip, to our home at “Smuggler’s Notch Resort” in Vermont. He volunteered to drive the 5+ hours and joined my daughter Stephanie and I up there. This saved my husband from having to do back to back trips and my kids liked him a lot. While he was there he enjoyed playing in the daily volleyball game, and going boating on the lake. He refused to take even gas money when he left us. Another time David surprised us with a large leaf pick-up because he had wanted to show his appreciation for the many food items that I gave him on a regular basis. He also taught me a great deal at the bridge table, and had a lot of patience with all of the novices. He will be missed by many in the local bridge community, much more than he would have guessed.

I am so glad David’s two brothers and one sister-in-law were able to go to New York and bring David back to Fargo. He had such a wonderful family who I have known all my life. Loving, kind, generous people, all of them.

New City NY I knew David from the Rockland Bridge Club. As a beginning player I always found David willing to help me learn the game. He was a gentleman. He’ll be missed at the club.
