David Mears of Fargo, ND passed away Monday February 22, 2021, in his home under the care of Hospice and surrounded by his family.
David was born February 19, 1948 to Alex and Harriet (Avens) Mears of Pleasant Lake, ND. He attended country school until the 7th grade and graduated from Rugby High School, Rugby, ND in 1966. David will tell you that “he met a wonderful farmgirl, Mary Ann Ebach and married her”.
David was a carpenter by trade. He was a member of the local carpenters union. David worked for various construction companies before starting his own business in 2002, which he proudly named Mears Construction. When the physical burdens of construction work caught up to him, David obtained employment with Service Oil, where he worked for 10 years. Most recently, David worked for Petro Service USA in their warehouse and made regular store deliveries from Bismarck, ND to Bemidji, MN. His delivery route brought him home each night to Fargo, ND and to his love of 52 years, Mary (Ebach) Mears.
David retired in 2020. One of David’s favorite past times was rooting for the Minnesota Vikings. Each Sunday during football season, you could find him kicked back in his recliner, with a newspaper, cup of coffee, and the TV tuned into the game. He loved the Vikings, but not near as much as he loved his grandchildren.
David leaves behind his wife Mary Mears, Fargo, ND; sons Gary Mears Fargo, ND; Chad (Jessica) Mears Fargo, ND; his five grandchildren, Colton, Gunnar and Quinn Mears, Fargo, ND; Owen and Ava Mears, Fargo, ND; his brothers Ted (Margaret) Mears, Rugby, ND; Steve (Debbie) Mears, Rugby, ND; his aunts Patricia Mears, Rugby, ND; Luella Avens, Billings, MT; and many beloved cousins, nephews, and nieces.
David is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Diane Mears and Lana Mears.
Visitation will be from 6:30-7:30 PM, with a prayer service at 7:30 PM, Friday, February 26, at Sts. Anne & Joachim Catholic Church in Fargo. Visitation will continue from 9:30 AM, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 27, at the Church.
