Diane Rogne, 70, of Fargo, ND passed away surrounded by family on March 29, 2016 under the care of Hospice after a courageous, nearly 2 year battle with ovarian cancer.
Diane was born on June 10, 1945 in Moorhead, MN, to Edward and Hulda (Brandt) Fitzgerald. Diane grew up in Sabin, MN along with her six siblings. She attended grade school in Sabin, and graduated high school from Moorhead High in 1963. In 1965 Diane married her lifelong love, John Rogne, and they moved to Fargo where they lived until Diane’s passing. Diane worked for Bell Telephone Company until she took on her most important role as a mom. She dedicated her life to being the most amazing mom and was actively involved in every aspect of her kid’s lives. Her children couldn’t wait to get home from school, yell “Mom I’m home”, and find out what was cooking. Once the kids were in high school Diane worked for the US Census Bureau part time for the next 25 years. She earned many awards, one of which included a trip for her and John to Washington, DC to accept the Census Award of Excellence. Retirement for Diane lasted 6 months – she never could sit still. Diane volunteered at the Sanford Hospital Gift Shop where she continued to “work” until she was no longer able. She was a Board Member for the Sanford Medical Center Partners. This was a job she thoroughly enjoyed and loved the people she worked with and the incredible friends she made. Sales were always better the days mom worked – her love of shopping may have helped.
Diane and John spent 46 wonderful summers on West McDonald Lake making it the place to be. Their children and grandchildren have grown up at the lake and there is nowhere they would rather be on weekends. Mom was always up for a game of bean bags or double solitaire. Instead of heading south for the winter, mom and dad spent hours at the rink watching their grandkids play hockey. Winters also meant bowling season – Mom bowled for 40 plus years at The Bowler on the same team. It was a sport she passed on to her kids, grandkids and niece (Lori). Mom knew everyone’s favorite foods and was sure to make something for everyone – she was the most amazing cook. The grandkids would say it was because she cooked with love. Another favorite pastime for Diane was the slot machines. If you couldn’t find Mom and Dad, you knew they went south (Hankinson). Mom touched so many people’s lives and will be dearly missed.
Diane is survived by her husband of 50 years, John Rogne, Fargo, ND; daughters: Shelly (Brian) Stalpes, Fargo, ND; Lisa McCarthy, Moorhead, MN; son: Jeff (Kelly) Rogne, Fargo, ND; six grandchildren: Jared Stalpes, Ryan Stalpes, Cole McCarthy, Jacob McCarthy, Riley McCarthy and Dylan Rogne. Diane is also survived by three siblings: Ronnie (Lucy) Fitzgerald, Moorhead, MN; Janet (Doug) Marquart, Moorhead, MN and Pat (Lloyd) Wilke, Bismarck, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Janice Kittilstved and Kathryn Kennedy and brother: Gene Fitzgerald.
