Donald L. Casavant, age 83, died Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at Bethany Homes, Fargo.
Donald was born to Loys H. and Alice M. (Bergstrom) Casavant on May 19, 1922 in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from Central High School there. He enlisted in the Air Force in February of 1943. He was a pilot who flew C47?s in Europe achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He was discharged in 1946 and met Lois Shogren in California. They were married on March 10, 1946 at Mamerland Lutheran Church in Stanton, IA. They moved to Evanston, IL where Donald worked for Kirchberg Jewelers for three years. They moved to Fargo, ND in December of 1949 and he worked in management for Crescent Jewelers. He spent 35 years in their employ at both the downtown and West Acres locations. After the closing of the Crescent stores, Donald worked part-time for Royal Jewelers in downtown Fargo as a salesperson. He retired in June of 2000.
He was a member of the Lion?s Club for over 30 years and also belonged to the Chamber of Commerce of Fargo. Donald was a long-time member, volunteer and trustee at Olivet Lutheran Church. He enjoyed cooking and gardening?and was known for an abundant production of vegetables to share.
He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Lois; daughter: Renee Eagles and her husband, Keehn, of Eden Prairie, MN; son: Christian Casavant and his wife, Lynnette of Dubuque, IA; three grandchildren; and one brother: Roger Casavant of Florida.
He is preceded by his parents; and one brother: LeRoy Casavant.
There will be a memorial service Friday at 11 a.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
