Donald Leroy Clark, 75, of Woodworth, ND passed away Wednesday, January 21st.

Don was born on August 15th, 1939 in the back of the Post Office in Woodworth, ND. He was the son of William and Loretta Clark. He graduated from Woodworth High School in 1957. He went on to attend North Dakota State University and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1961.

He started working for the North Dakota Highway Department in 1961 and joined Mid America Steel in 1964 as a Project Estimator.

On July 25th 1964, he married Judith Lauber and they had three children, Rayessa, Byron, and Melissa.

The family moved to Bismarck ND in 1978 when Mid America Steel opened their fabrication facility where Don served as Manager. They moved back to Fargo in July of 1983 when Don became the Sales Manager for Mid America Steel. He became President of Mid America Steel in 1993 and Chairman of the Board in 2002.

He was elected to the North Dakota House in 2004 where he served as a Representative from District 44 in North Fargo until 2012. While in the Legislature he served on the Industry, Business and Labor Committee, as well as the Natural Resources Committee. He also served on the Board of the North Dakota Credit Union Association, the Board of Directors for the Association of General Contractors of North Dakota, the Central Fabricators Association in Chicago and was a member of the FM Engineers Club.

He actively participated in the Boy Scouts of America and was a longtime member of the Fargo Optimists Club. He was also a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. As an active outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family. He had a strong belief in the values of education, hard work, and free enterprise. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He was a genuine friend, a tower of strength, and one who was loved and respected by many.

He is preceded in death by his parents William and Loretta. He is survived by his wife Judith Clark, his children, Rayessa (James) Baer, Buffalo MN, Byron (Sarah) Clark, Rochester MN, and Melissa (DJ) Lura Salisbury NC, and nine grandchildren.  He is also survived by his siblings Darryl (Nancy) Clark, Dennis (LaVonne) Clark and Joan (Mark) Gehlhar and many nieces and nephews.

This summer we had the good fortune to visit with Don, Darryl, Dennis and Joan when they attended our family reunion at their grandmotherтАЩs childhood home in Winesburg Oh. Don had taken it upon himself to arrange for this visit. It was great to be able to become reacquainted and renew the old family ties. He will be greatly missed.;

  6. Gonna miss Uncle Don. Didn’t get to see him often, but always enjoyed the times I did. He always quizzed me on different country’s independence days, so it was kind of an ongoing thing. Can’t wait to see him again one day;

    SU. While he was working for Mid America Steel and I with the Corps of Engineers. I worked with him of the settlement of claims on the Safe Guard System Montana. Mid America was providing embeds. He actually stayed at our home in Great Falls.
    I provide him data for bidding the iron for the New Military Hospital at Minot AFB.
    He was always professional and knew the scope work.
    I am proud to have known Don Cark a true professional who knew how to work with all.;

I remember when Jeff and I were dating, one of the first things we did is go to MidAmerica Steel to meet his Uncle Don! Don and Judi always made me feel so welcome in their home, it was always an important stop on the way to Bismarck from Florida. I have so many awesome memories. You will always be my family and I love you all so much. Please know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers for a long time. I love you all and I pray that Jesus comes back soon so we can be reunited with those that are in His presence now.
