Donald Strand

Donald E. Strand, 77, of Kindred, North Dakota, died July 13, 2004 at his home. Donald was born October 13, 1926 in Abercrombie Township, North Dakota to Ingmar and Ruth (Gunness) Strand. Donald attended school in Abercrombie and graduated from High School in 1944. Donald enlisted in the US Navy and served on the Saratoga Aircraft Carrier in the South Pacific. Donald served from 1944 to 1946. Donald returned to the area and attended NDSU Agricultural School, Fargo, ND for 2 years. Donald then worked for a while at the Red Owl Store in Fargo. Donald married Betty Lou Thompson in 1948 at West Prairie Lutheran, rural Kindred, ND. They settled in the Kindred area and farmed till Donald retired from farming in 1991, but continued to worked with his son on the farm till he suffered a stroke. Donald served as a board member of the Latin American Lutheran Mission from 1970-1997 and serve as president from 1990-1995. Donald is survived by his wife Betty Lou, his children: David (Debby) Strand, Kindred, ND, Julie Ann (Alex) Mandes, Helotes, TX, Sidney (Kim) Strand, Cheyenne, WY, Susan (Jack) Morris, Taylor Ridge, IL, James (Susan) Strand, Pelican Rapids, MN, Linda (Howard) Pender, Barnesville, MN, his brothers Percy (Judy) Strand, Wahpeton, ND, Irving (Shirley) Strand, Rice Lake, WI and Lyle (Shirley) Strand, Hawley, MN and a Brother-in-Law Glenn Fixen, Wahpeton, ND and 20 grandchildren. Donald is preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters Rachel Fixen and Naomi Lyseng. The Funeral for Donald E. Strand will be Saturday, July 17, 2004 at 11am at the West Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Kindred, burial will follow at the West Prairie Cemetery. The Prayer Service will be Friday, July 16, 2004 at 7pm at Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Kindred, ND with visitation at 4-7pm. Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Kindred, ND, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
