Doris G. Hunt, Fargo, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Essentia Health, Fargo surrounded by family.

Doris was born February 12, 1928 in Fall River, MA to Aldei and Bertha (Dion) Lachance. Her French-Canadian heritage was a source of great pride to her and she spoke French fluently. She grew up in Fall River, graduating from Durfee High School in 1945. She went on to graduate from Thibodeau Business School, Fall River, MA.  She worked in various clerical positions before becoming a full time mother and wife. She married Joseph W. The family was stationed to Fargo where Doris eventually made her home.

Doris was an avid volunteer, donating her time to several area schools, the Red Cross, the Veterans Hospital and most recently the Hector Airport Information Desk. She was recognized for her service by being the recipient of several awards throughout the years. She enjoyed traveling, especially to see her sisters. Her grandkids were very special to her and she loved spending time with them. She loved certain television shows, especially those on PBS including Masterpiece Theatre. She loved going to Mass at the VA Chapel where she made many friends, including Father “Père” Henry Tanto.

She is survived by her children; Joanne (David) Bennett, Columbia Heights, MN, Tracey (Jack) Breland, Harrisburg, SD, Nancy (Paul) Brenk, Moorhead, MN, sisters; Muriel (Raymond) Lacroix, Tiverton, RI, Pauline Cavanaugh, Highlands, NC, grandchildren; Suzanne Hanson, Fargo, ND, Michael Hanson, Fargo, ND, Elizabeth Hanson, Fargo, ND, Eric Brenk, Cloquet, MN, Ian Brenk, Moorhead, MN, special friend, Richard Tryhus, Fargo, ND; several nieces and nephews; and many cherished grandpets.

Doris always appreciated the help that Hospice of the Red River Valley provided. This was her charity of choice and in lieu flowers, donations can be made in Doris’ memory to them.

Always when answering the phone…when she called for you, she greeted me joyously as if I was her best friend! A smile on her face and in her heart, proud of her grandchildren…and a passion for life. She was proud of you Nancy for your interest and studies in the French language. Look for her in the little things, for she will be there.

  8. Fargo ND
Dear Tracy , Nancy, Mike and Suzanne, I was so sorry to her of your beloved Mother and grandmothers passing onto her eternal reward.
In recent years I would often see her at the 1:30 pm Mass on sunday
at the VA sometimes accompanied by Mike, which I found to be so touching and sweet.
