Obituary

Doris Madelyn Junkin, 74, of Moorhead, MN died Tuesday March 11, 2014 at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo, North Dakota.

Doris was born on May 24, 1939 to Floyd and Adeline Junkin. She attended Central High School in Fargo, ND and graduated in 1957. After graduation she received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. She worked as an LPN in Jamestown, North Dakota from 1958-1966. In 1966 she moved to Fargo to continue working as an LPN at Dakota Hospital in the pediatric department until 1981. Doris became a nursing assistant and worked in various nursing homes around the area until about 2000. Doris later worked in the housekeeping department at Riverview Place of Fargo from 2000-2004.

Family and friends were extremely important to Doris and she enjoyed spending time with them whenever she could. Doris shared her many fond memories of spending time at Little Pine Lake in Perham, Minnesota. Doris love her pets, Heidi and Lady, her shelties, and JoJo her cat. She adored them and treated them just like children. Because of her love for animals the family asks that in lieu of flowers all memorials go to the Humane Society.

Doris taught all of us how to live and now how to die with great courage and grace.

She is survived by 1 brother, Walter Junkin, Sauk Centre, Minnesota, two sisters, Mary Jane (Jon) Halverson, Grand Forks, North Dakota, and her twin sister, Doreen (Paul) Vangerud, Valley City, North Dakota. She also is survived by 13 nieces and nephews, and 16 great-nieces and nephews, as well as her friends Linda Kennedy, Dilworth, Minnesota, and Marilyn Bauer, Moorhead, Minnesota and Addie Bencker, Hawley, Minnesota.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law Karen Junkin, and nephew Ralph Vangerud.

    Fargo ND
I lost track of Doris a few years ago when she left Fargo. The Junkin family was friends with the Hageman family many years ago and they enjoyed holidays together and many fun hunting trips I’ve heard about. I was so sorry I couldn’t attend Doris’s funeral, but I wanted to extend my sympathy to her family. Last time I saw Mary Jane was at St. John. Doris was such a lovely lady and worked hard and was always excited about her home and her pets. She will be missed by her family and friends. Love, Your Friend, Donna Hageman.
