Dr. Robert Reed, 89, of Fargo, formerly of Spirit Lake, Vergas, MN died Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Triumph Hospital, Fargo. Robert C. Reed was born on October 15, 1918 in Stockton, Kansas, the son of John and Ella (Chamberlain) Reed. He grew up on a farm near there and attended country school. Robert graduated from Stockton High School and then served his country during WWII. After his discharge he graduated from Kansas State Veterinarian College in 1944. Dr. Reed moved to Bismarck, North Dakota where he began his veterinarian career with the North Dakota State Veterinary Department and was assigned to Hillsboro, North Dakota in 1945. Robert began his private practice in Hillsboro. Robert and Alice Nelson were married on December 31, 1947 in Clifford, ND. The couple made their home in Hillsboro. They moved to Bismarck in 1969 where Dr. Reed worked as an assistant to the State Veterinarian until his retirement in 1983. They moved to Spirit Lake near Vergas, MN in 1986 where they resided until 2008 when they moved to Fargo. He is survived by his wife, Alice; two sons, John (Joanne) Reed of Brooten, MN, Terry (Susan) Reed of Hillsboro, ND; three daughters, Vickie (Dr. Mike) Milde of Menasha, WI, Susan (Craig) Stringer of Modesto, CA, and Kim (Tom) Smith of McAllen, TX; twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and nine sisters. Memorial Service: 11 AM Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at Our Savior?s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro Arrangements entrusted to the care of Wildeman Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
