Duane “Dewey” McLaren, 83, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Sanford Health in Fargo.

Duane “Dewey” Curtis McLaren was born on April 22, 1931 in Brainerd, MN to Herbert and Hazel (Nelson) McLaren.  He graduated from Central High School in Fargo, ND.  He worked with his father at the Herb’s Used Car Lot on Main Avenue in Fargo, ND detailing cars through jr. high and high school. He married Donna Geswein on September 14, 1950 at First Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND.  For the next 20 years he worked for Service Chevrolet, Fargo, ND and Kiefer Chevrolet in Moorhead, MN.  In 1971 he began working for WW Wallwork Companies, Inc. in sales and leasing management for 28 years.  He retired in 1996.  In retirement he worked part-time at Lunde Motors to train their leasing sales staff.  This represents over 56 years of service in the auto business.  He was a member of Ford Auto Leasing (FALS) and won the top award over the whole United States for 8 years.  

He was a member of Lake Agassiz Kiwanas and did charity work for the American Legion Bike Shop for many years. He was a member of Golden Ridge Lutheran Church and served on the council and many other volunteer positions within the church.   He enjoyed the family lake home on Lake Lida and fishing and golfing. 

He is survived by his wife, Donna; children:  Kirby Duane McLaren, Fargo, ND, Guy Wayne McLaren, Fargo, Kim Marie Weaver (Timothy) Fargo, ND; four grandchildren:  Lauren McLaren, Kelly Marie  (Joe) Skar, Lisa Kay Weaver, Jacob Chase Weaver; Two great grandchildren;  siblings:  Jerome “Mac” McLaren, Lake View Terrace, CA, Joan Marek, Fargo, ND, Herbert McLaren (Stephanie) Simi Valley, CA.

Preceded by parents and one brother, Donald Jerome McLaren.

  1. Dewey was a special person and a mentor, not just in business but also his positive and infectious personality…he always made me smile.

  2. Farewell to my good friend Dewey who could prepare the best burgers in Fargo on that new grill..
    The whole troop will miss that, and the friendship and camaraderie with every visit. I was very proud to call you my friend and like a lot of people that I have met, you know that you know that you like them as soon as you meet them and Dewey was that type of individual…May the comfort of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be with all the family and friends of Dewey during this time of grief and loss…God’s speed ole friend..
