Ellen Nygard

Ellen B. Nygard, 87, West Fargo, formerly of rural Kindred, ND died December 14, 2011 at Pioneer House, Fargo, ND.
Ellen was born November 23, 1923 near Kindred to Thorvald and Clara ( Brateng) Jostad where she grew up and attended school. She married Conrad on June 29, 1942. They farmed together and were married 54 years. He passed away in 1996. Ellen moved to West Fargo in2001.
She was an avid quilter, many of them were given to her family. As a member of West Prairie she helped put together hundreds of quilts which were shipped to missions.
Ellen was active in Farmers Union, Sons of Norway, a volunteer for Bethany Homes and was in the West Prairie Ladies' Aide.
Ellen is survived by her two daughters, Lois (Karl) Kanning, Levant, Kansas and Cathy (Dean) Keller , Austin, Texas; a brother Maynard (Roseanna) Jostad , San Jacinto, California; sisters-in-law Carlotte (Mayland) Jostad, Dorothy Nygard, West Fargo and Myrtle Nygard, Fargo; five grancdchildren and 9 great-grand children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Conrad, brothers John, Toby and Mayland Jostad, and sisters Olga Johnson, Geneva Sather, Sally Odegaard, Christine Nelson and Mildren Rekken.

I served on the Cass County Farmers Union Board with Conrad. I am now serving as President of that board. We had alot of good times together in F.U.

I share your grief over the loss of your dear mother, and my Godmother, Ellen. I know you are left with many good memories, as are we all. Who can forget the many Christmas Eves with all of us excited cousins at your house waiting for Santa to make his appearance?
I wish I could be with you to celebrate her life, but distance and winter weather make that impossible. I will be with you in thought and prayer.
