Elmer Marquardt, 70, of Fargo, ND died Sunday, August 23, 2009.

Elmer was born on May 21, 1939 at the family farm in Traverse County, Minnesota to Bill and Hilda (Meyer) Marquardt. He graduated from high school in Fairmount, ND in 1958 and attended North Dakota State School of Science.

On March 7, 1959 he married Harriet Scheidegger. They started their married life in Fairmount and later moved to Fargo, which they called home for 49 years. Elmer and Harriet were blessed with four children.

Elmer received his securities license and worked for West America Securities before becoming a co-owner of A&R Roofing in Fargo. He owned A&R Roofing for 34 years before retiring in 2007.
Elmer enjoyed the outdoors and loved fishing and hunting. He spent countless hours on the lake fishing with his wife, children, and friends. In his later years, he especially enjoyed his time at his lake cabin on Lake Traverse. He played fast pitch softball for many years in Fargo and was a shrewd card player.

Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Harriet (Scheidegger) Marquardt; three children: Tammy Marquardt, Fargo, ND; Terry (Terri) Marquardt, Hudson, WI; Tom (Rachel) Marquardt, Coon Rapids, MN; four granddaughters: Katherine, Olivia, Sophia, and Isabella Marquardt all of Hudson, WI; one sister: Adeline Zentgraf; a special family friend, Marianne Kalin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lester; and a daughter, Shelly Rae Marquardt.

Visitation will be at Peace Lutheran Church on Tuesday, August 25 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. The funeral will be at Peace Lutheran Church on Wednesday, August 26 at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service.

  1. I just found this notice of Elmer’s passing while looking up info on his son Terry whom I coached in Little League baseball in ’73 (we won the city championship). I also played cards with Elmer and worked for Gene Haugen (Fargo Roofing) when Elmer was its salesman. I always got along well with Elmer; I’m sure you all miss him.
