Obituary

Elmer M. Volness, 89, Fargo passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Essentia Health, Fargo surrounded by his family.

Elmer was born August 26, 1925 in Perley, MN to Ditlef and Amanda (Jacobson) Volness. He moved to Twin Valley, MN where he attended High School before being drafted. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1944 where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He moved back to Perley, MN where he worked with his father as a carpenter. He married Shirley Ziegler on December 17, 1947 in Georgetown, MN. They moved to Minneapolis where Elmer attended Dunwoody Institute. They moved back to Fargo and he went to work for Simon Furniture for 10 years. He started his own business, Elmer’s Candy Service. He retired at age 62.

He was a lifetime member of the West Fargo VFW and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Shirley, Fargo, children; LaVonne (James) Eisenlohr, New York Mills, MN, Michael (Becky) Volness, Fargo, ND, Roger (Carolanne) Volness, Fargo, ND, Dean (Linda Jo) Volness, Fargo, ND, brother, Robert (Carol) Volness, Mankato, MN, sisters, Evelyn Nelson, Moorhead, MN, Jane (Gordon) Walker, Moorhead, MN and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 4 sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church, 821 5th Ave S., Fargo ND 58103.

Prayer Service: 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo with visitation starting at 6:00 P.M.

Funeral Service: 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo with Military Honors.
