Emma Mae Manthey passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2004, at the Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home at the age of 82. Emma Mae Anderson was born on May 6, 1922, the daughter of Alfred and Maime (Johnson) Anderson, in Hillsboro, North Dakota. She grew up and attended school in Hillsboro. After her schooling she moved to California where she lived and worked for a number of years. On July 6, 1958, she married Marlin G. Manthey in Ada, Minnesota. They lived in Mahnomen, Minnesota, for 3 years and then returned to Hillsboro where they purchased a farmstead. Emma worked as a homemaker for many years. Every fall, for 17 years, she worked for several area farmers on the Potato Machine. Marlin died in 1982. Emma is survived by her 3 daughters, Lois Horsager of Kansas; Bonnie (Arne) Oien of Hillsboro; Rose (Ron) Schlaht of Halstad, Minnesota; her son, Curtis (Sally) Keeney of Rapid City, South Dakota; and her step daughter, Vonie Manthey of Hillsboro. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren, Tammi (Tim) Faulds of Kansas; Lori (Bryan) Tabor of Kansas; Jaime Wayne Horsager of Kansas; Jadie Oien of Fargo; Darcy Oien of Hillsboro; Krystal Schlaht of Halstad; Ben Schlaht of Fargo; Josh Keeney of Fargo; and her 5 great grandchildren, Micah Lee and Caleb Rylie Fauld; Austin Gentry, Kaela and Ciara Jade Tabor all of Kansas; and her sisters, Theone Mooney of Hillsboro; and Marcella Mjoness of Fargo.
