Eric J. Schafer

eric j. schafer

Eric John Schafer, 35, of Fargo, ND, died on January 12, 2015. He was born May 7, 1979 in Jamestown, ND, to Bill and Lois (Hartl) Schafer. He lived his early years in New Rockford, ND, and graduated from Fargo North High School in 1997. He attended NDSU. After living several years in Austin, TX, he returned to Fargo in 2006.

Eric was employed at dogIDs in Fargo, an environment that allowed him to blend his love of animals with his passion for business. In addition to an innate love of animals and people, he had an adventurous spirit that led him to rock climbing, sky diving, kayaking, and snorkeling. He lived his much-too-brief life with purpose and passion.

He is survived by his parents, his brother Ryan and Emily (Pearson) Kerrville, TX, his grandmothers, Lillie Hartl and Margaret Schafer, both of New Rockford, special friend Aubray Dombeck and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

  23. Fargo ND

    Bill, Lois, Ryan, and Emily,
    We are so sad to hear of your loss. Our hearts hurt for you, can’t imagine your heartache. Even though we hadn’t seen Eric in quite a few years, it was always fun to catch up when you talked about your boys! He was such a sweet guy, I am remembering the times we made bunny cakes and our 4 kids played out in the yard together! Hugs to you!;

  24. I had been trying to contact Eric — I’d try every once in awhile, thinking perhaps I had the wrong number, then I’d try to find his facebook- nothing— I missed him. I needed his energy. Then one night this summer, I texted him— no answer. But then I awoke suddenly, at 3:33 in the morning, and the urge to google obits came on. There he was. He’d died in 2015 and I was there in 2021, missing his beautiful spirit. But If you know what I know, He was there. And like the sweetest lil monkey he was, that was his way of texting me back. I wrote a song about him after that. He was one of the best men I’ve met, bar none, ever. I can’t wait to see him again. He can come visit me in spirit any ol time. :).
