Ethel Sylvia Sorenson died peacefully at her home in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Friday morning, February 13, 2004, one month after her 95th birthday. Ethel was born January 13, 1909 to Thorvald and Marie Odegaard at the farm in rural Hickson, North Dakota where she grew up and attended grade school. She married Clarence, C.O., Sorenson of rural Davenport, North Dakota on May 3, 1930. Ethel and Clarence farmed at Davenport all their working life, briefly farming outside Moorhead, Minnesota from 1944 to 1950. Ethel belonged to the Davenport Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Bethany Homes Auxiliary where she did volunteer work for over twenty years. Preceding her in death was her husband Clarence (July 21, 1996) and three sisters, Gunda, Dagne and Viola, three brothers, Melford, Melvin and Lloyd. She is survived by two great grandchildren, Brynlie and Kyle Helmich and her granddaughter, Adra Sorenson Helmich (Erich) of Cave Creek, AZ, her grandson Aric Sorenson of Minneapolis, MN, her son Curtis Sorenson and his wife, Marilyn, of Scottsdale, AZ. An Arizona memorial service will be held at the Chapel of Pinnacle Presbyterian Church, Friday afternoon February 20th with a summer service at the Davenport Lutheran Church in North Dakota, the date to be announced.
