Evelyn Gifford

Evelyn passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo at the age of 90.
Evelyn was born on March 14, 1920, the daughter of Elvin and Anna Sorum, in Hillsboro, ND. She grew up near Amenia, ND and graduated high school. Following her education, Evelyn worked for the Farm Bureau office in Casselton, ND. Evelyn was united in marriage to Mearl Gifford on October 31, 1959 at Herby Lutheran Church near Amenia. They made their home on a farm near Gardner, ND where they farmed for many years. Evelyn was very active in the farming operation where she worked as bookkeeper as well as prepared many meals for the hired help. Throughout her life, Evelyn loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed her bridge group and also keeping very active in the North Dakota Republican Party. Mearl and Evelyn spent over 24 years of winters in Arizona, and many summers at the lake home. They retired from farming and moved to Fargo in 1980, where they have lived since. Most recently, Evelyn had been a resident at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Mearl of Fargo, ND; her daughter in law, Margie Silver of Fargo; her sister, Margaret Sorum of Fargo, ND; her step son, Robert (Rose) Gifford of Moorhead, MN; and her step daughter, Dixie Lee Watson of Houston, TX. Also surviving are her very dear grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her son, William "Bill" Silver; and her step daughter, Arlene Badel.

Brasilia BrazilMissing you greatly Grandma. So sorry I could not be there to honor you. But here in Brazil, I hear the morning doves and think of all the wonderful times and memories of you and Grandpa and my dad at the farm. Such moments bring tears but also a calm and assurances about this life of ours. Thank you for being such a great presence and actively sharing and participating in my life–I have been so lucky. Fargo ndEvelyn was a lady of class. While the last few months were not very kind to her, she is in a better place now playing bridge with her buddies.
