Frances E. Jacobson, 98, died peacefully on Monday, August 24, 2015 in Fargo, ND surrounded by family. Fran was born on February 13, 1917 to Josephine and Carl Vettel in Caledonia, ND. While progressing through the grades and high school she developed into a star basketball player. She was valedictorian of her high school class of 1934. She attended nursing school at St. John’s Hospital in Fargo and graduated as a registered nurse (RN) in 1937. Following graduation Fran worked as an RN in Seattle, Washington and in Fargo. She always remained proud throughout the years of her nursing degree and work and kept in contact with her classmates from nursing school. On July 15, 1939 Fran married Vernon Jacobson. They had six sons who became the focal point of their married life while living in Fargo and Moorhead. She attended thousands of sporting events in which her sons and grandchildren participated. She was a strong influence in guiding her sons who each obtained their college degrees. Fran loved to play bridge and did so regularly with her friends. Retirement years included living in Sun City, AZ which they enjoyed. Fran is survived by her sons, Ron (Nina), Rosemount, MN, Neal (Judy), Bismarck, ND, Doug (Chris), Fargo, ND, Kent (Susie), Scottsdale, AZ, and Tim (Kim), Fargo, ND, 28 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Fran was preceded in death by her husband Vernon, her son Keith, her granddaughters Jodi and Debbie, her great-grandson Brian, her parents and brothers Bob and Jack McDonald. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 pm Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Her funeral will be at 10 AM on Friday at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Fargo. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo, ND.

  1. Grandma I love you so much. I’m so sorry I will not be there for the funeral. Thank you for everything you have taught me. My prayers are with my family as they say goodbye.

She seemed to be an amazing woman just by the words written about her, she gave that to her children and they theirs and forever will be remembered in this way.
