Francis “Frank” Joseph Bernhardt, 71, Fargo, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Essentia Health in Fargo.  He was born on September 6, 1941 in Strasburg, ND to Eugene and Maggie (Roehrich) Bernhardt.  He spent his childhood in Fargo. 

On May 25, 1963 he married Carol Brandvold at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead, MN.  He worked as an estimator and buyer at Midwest Mechanical Inc. for many years, and in 1974 he was named Vice President of the sheet metal department.  Frank later started his own company, Bernhardt Sheet Metal, Inc. and ran this business for 27 years.

In his spare time, Frank was an avid hunter, loved watching NASCAR, and enjoyed restoring vintage vehicles.  He was acclaimed for his hobby when he won a first place trophy from the World of Wheels for the restoration of at 1955 Chevy hard top he pulled from the Red River.  Some of his favorite times were spent dancing at the Sheet Metal Union Hall.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; three sons, Brad (Linda), Dave (Deb), Jeff (Cindy); sisters, Lillian Benesch, Rosemary Ramsett, and Marge (Roy) Klinger, Sandi (Rick) Andersen; brother, Gene; and four grandchildren, Bryce, Cody, Katie, and Amber.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Georgina Serio.

    I am Frank’s first cousin the daughter of William and Rosie Bernhardt.
    I am so sorry to hear that my cousin died. My condolenses to Carol and Family also to Lillian, Rosemary, Marge, Sandi and Gene.
    Back in 1953 my Sister Frances who is married to Eusebius Kuntz lived in Fargo, my Mom and Dad went to visit them and I got to go with, we also visted Uncle Eugene and Aunt Maggie. I had the best time there. It was Frank, Rosemary and Marge that showed me a wonderful time we were playing inside till be got to loud then we run around outside in the dark till late at night.
    That is how I remember cousin Frank. May he rest in peace.
