Obituary

Frank Bair, age 91 of Fargo, died Thursday, August 17, 2006 in Bethany Homes, Fargo.

Frank was born on March 6, 1915 in St. Paul, MN. He graduated from high school in 1934 and found employment in the Sheep Division at the Union Stockyards in South St. Paul. He transferred to Fargo in 1936 to continue his work at the West Fargo Stockyards.

He entered the military in February 1942 and was assigned to Basic Infantry training in Texas. A short time later he was sent to O.C.S. at Ft. Benning, Georgia where he was commissioned a Lieutenant. He spent 2-1/2 years in the Southwest Pacific where he was awarded 2 combat decorations while fighting in New Guinea and the Phillippines. He was discharged from the military in early 1946 as an Assistant Battalion Commander with the rank of Major.

He returned to the livestock business in Fargo. On May 10, 1946 he married Muriel Lucken in Fargo.

Frank was active in sports. In his younger years he competed in softball, basketball, and bowling. He was inducted into the F.M. Bowling Hall of Fame in 1979. In his later years he enjoyed golfing with friends. He was a lifetime member of the West Fargo VFW and a member of the Fargo Elks since 1946. He retired in 1980, and he and his wife spent summers in the Detroit Lakes area and winters in Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his daughter, Pamela Bair, and his sister, Elizabeth.

He is survived by his sister, Kathryn Welke of Brainerd, MN, niece, Kathryn E. Welke of Beaver Dam, WI; nephew, Bill Welke, Bozeman, MT and friend, Judy Ludwig of Fargo.

Frank was a generous and gentle man. He will be missed. A special thank you to Bethany Homes and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their care and compassion. Memorials are preferred to donor?s choice.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 15 at 10:30 am in Boulger Funeral Home Chapel, Fargo with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
